Position Summary

The Business Intelligence Developer is part of a team that is responsible for the design, development, and testing of business intelligence applications supporting reporting, analytics, and decision-making. Activities include requirements gathering; logical design and modeling; and development of cubes, dashboards, and reports.

Job Qualifications

The following are essential in order to perform the job effectively:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education and experience
  • A minimum of 4 years related experience
  • Advanced SQL query skills
  • Experience with BI modeling and report development tools (Cognos preferred)
  • Understanding of data warehouse concepts
  • Vision, intiative, and creativity in approaching technical challenges
  • Strong analytical thinking, intellectual curiosity, and tenacity; excellent problem-solving and decision-making ability
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including an ability to convey complex ideas in a simple way
  • Ability to build relationships and work effectively with both technical and non-technical colleagues at all levels
  • Close attention to detail; commitment to accuracy
  • Desire and ability to share knowledge, both teaching and learning from IT colleagues
The successful candidate must also demonstrate knowledge and strength in some of the following areas:

  • Logical and multidimensional data modeling
  • Data warehouse and/or data mart development
  • SQL development and tuning (PL/SQL preferred)
  • Data visualization methods and tools
  • Predictive analytics
  • MDX
  • JavaScript and JavaScript frameworks
  • ETL tools (OWB preferred)
  • Data virtualization tools (Composite Information Server preferred)
  • Java
  • XML
  • Database administration and performance tuning (Oracle preferred)
  • Higher education administration software (Banner preferred)
  • Technical project management
