The Data Warehouse BI Engineer is a position with a variety of responsibilities. Because we are a small team, we’re looking for flexible individuals who possess a strategic viewpoint and are able to grow as the data warehouse continues to scale. In the beginning you will wear many hats but as we mature you will have the opportunity to become more specialized. First and foremost you have to be passionate about working with data. Secondly, you have to get a thrill from business people gaining insight from the reporting and analysis our data warehouse provides. Lastly, you need to be detail oriented. Responsibilities will include business analysis, data analysis, physical data modeling, ETL and reporting development, and quality assurance. Using agile methodologies, you will deliver and succeed on projects you can be proud of on a regular basis.

Responsibilities:
Work closely with cross-functional business groups to define reporting requirements

Document business data needs

Validate reporting needs with prototypes

Work to remove impediments from the team

Demonstrate solid understanding of the business and close alignment to stakeholder needs

Maintain expertise in the area of data warehousing, including industry trends, strategies, and products. Provide leadership and direction through subject matter expertise

Determine product suitability and provide recommendations for effective use of assets and investments

Perform ETL development for complex procedures and performance tuning of database and ETL processes

Identify, log, and monitor Data Warehouse issues

Maintain strong and effective working relationships with Product Management, Engineering, and IT teams as well as our business partners

Required Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in Computer Science or related discipline

Strong experience using SQL, including complex stored procedures, functions, query optimization, indexing strategy

Experience designing large scale analytical databases across multiple operating systems (Microsoft and Linux)

Experience working with a business team to define requirements for a BI/DW initiative.

Minimum of 5-7 years related experience with emphasis in Data Warehouse engineering and development life cycle

2 years’ experience in Data Analysis for Data Warehouse

2 years’ experience gathering Business Requirements for Data Warehouse

Preferred Experience:
Master’s Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems, or Business Administration (MBA)

Prior experience designing and building logical data models

Working knowledge of Data Management related to data governance, data definitions, and data modeling

Ability to effectively communicate at different levels in and across the organization and to articulate to non-technical audiences the advantages and disadvantages of using various technologies and standards

Experience working with multi-terabyte data sets

Experience working with Scrum methodologies

Experience with PowerShell / C# / SSIS

Experience with Perl

Successful candidate will have solid oral and written communication and problem solving abilities. You must be resourceful, quick to learn and display the ability to understand both business and technological issues.
