Under supervision of the Research Advancement Manager, the Business Manager performs fund management and accounting activities for the College of Technology & Innovation's (CTI) sponsored research. The Business Manager works with the CTI research assistance and business management teams to ensure ongoing adherence with policies, regulations, requirements and standards of the University and sponsoring sources.
Duties will include:
Initiates orders and processes expenditures in accordance with budgeted amounts; reviews and authorizes purchases of supplies, services and equipment within limits set by administrative officials and sponsor guidelines; evaluates and recommends improvements in cost control practices. Prepares and submits journal vouchers to adjust expenditures to conform to project funding changes; ensures proper recording of sponsored project expenditures. Purchases items/equipment with P-card and reconciles P-card statements monthly.
Maintains proper accounting and records of operational expenses, typically utilizing a computerized system. Verifies sponsored projects¿ account balances prior to processing expenditures to identify problems and/or questionable areas; processes redistributions as necessary. Provides backup for the RA Accountant on re-budget requests. Provides general guidance to faculty and staff regarding restrictions and allowance of expenditures against sponsored project accounts. Researches and provides assistance to management concerning management reports and disbursement of funds. Provides technical advice and services to the CTI faculty and staff with sponsored project problems or special projects related to research. Remains current regarding all newly created, changed and/or updated policies, practices, methods, standards, regulations and requirements effecting sponsored project accounting to ensure ongoing compliance; communicates information to all CTI faculty and staff to ensure understanding and awareness. Participates in a variety of meetings and training events. Performs all other job-related duties as requested/assigned.
DAYS AND SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday 8:00AM-5:00PM
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field AND two years of related budget and accounting experience; OR, Six years of progressively responsible budgeting and accounting experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Experience in: financial accounting systems ( i.e.,Advantage);utilizing sponsored research policies and procedures; monitoring budgets and financial transactions; purchasing systems (SunRise) and P-Cards; My Reports or other data warehouse-type applications; MS Office applications ( i.e., Word, Excel).
