Description:
The

Business Objects Developer

is a member of the Information Delivery Development team within the Information Technology Shared Services organization. The Business Objects developer may be responsible for building reports in Webi and Crystal and for designing universes in Universe Designer. The report developer will build reports based on requirements documented by the IT business analyst. The universe designer role will work closely with IT business analysts to understand business requirements for the universe. The universe designer will model, build, and maintain universes that will be used by customers to build Webi or Crystal reports under a "self service" reporting model. The Universe Designer is a critical role in protecting the Business Objects environment by ensuring design standards are developed and enforced.

Responsibilities may include:
Optimizing existing universes to meet the standards

Modeling and building universes based on business requirements, best practices and standards; creation of functional and technical design specifications

Maintaining universes for operational break/fix issues and enhancements

Testing of reports against universes and database connections

Working on large projects where several new universes will be created and then must be supported

Work with business analysts to understand requirements

Build Crystal Reports using XIR2 or XI 3.1 according to business requirements

Build Webi Reports using XIR2 or XI 3.1 according to business requirements

Unit test reports in preparation for UAT

Publish reports

Qualifications

Basic/Required:
Legally authorized to work in the United States

Bachelor's Degree

3+ years experience as a Business Objects Universe Designer

Experience with Universe Design in Business Objects XIR2 and XI 3.1

Extensive knowledge connecting to multiple data sources

Experience resolving errors/issues with universes (loops, parse errors, traps, etc.)

3+ years experience building and publishing Crystal Reports XIR2 and XI 3.1

3+ years experience building and publishing Webi Reports XIR2 and XI 3.1

Knowledge of the Central Management Console

Experience with Infoview

Understanding how to use these data sources: SQL Server, Oracle, and BW

Understanding of Crystal Presentation options (Web, Excel, etc.)

Understanding of Crystal Delivery options (Infoview, Email, etc.)

Preferred:
5+ years experience as a Business Objects Universe Designer

Advanced understanding of development using all Business Objects reporting tools

5+ years experience as a Business Objects Report Developer using Crystal or Webi

3+ years experience designing and building Xcelsius dashboards

Basic understanding of Business Objects Server administration

Experience connecting universes to the following data sources: Oracle, SQL Server, SAS, SAP ECC, SAP BW 3.5/BI 7.0, Teradata

Energy industry experience

Basic understanding of Database Administration

Experience optimizing existing universes to improve report & system performance

Experience building universes for large organizations, particularly when cross functional business areas share universes

Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and time management skills to meet task deadlines

Ability to work independently, self-motivated, with excellent verbal communication skills

Ability to teach, education, train and perform knowledge transfer
