The Buyer identifies, executes and communicates long-term and seasonal enterprise merchandise strategies through development of assortment and conceptual plans, and controlling merchandising and marketing/advertising messages for assigned lines that meet or exceed sales, profit, inventory and other investment plans.
Provides item plans to and partners with Planning & Allocation and Inventory Planning on creation of forecasts. Partners with Planning & Allocation and Direct Inventory Planning associate(s) to manage and control inventory levels for pre-season and in-season; ensures
OTB remains fluid and replenishment of wanted merchandise is achieved meeting turnover profits and delivery objectives. Determines and confirms quantities and in-store/activation dates. Manages performance, including sales and profit plans and inventory management, jointly with Planning & Allocation and Inventory Planning associate(s).
Develops an enterprise assortment plan that optimizes sales and profits for assigned subdivisions that is reconciled with the merchandise financial plan. Develops a competitive merchandise assortment plan that is customer focused based on financial plan and marketing plans, and monitors and adjusts sales plan to trend by staying current on fashion trends and competition.
Identifies and plans key items; selects products to meet plan; assigns product attributes to aid in online searches.
Determines supplier selection criteria and rationalization; negotiates commitments, delivery, cost co-op programs and cost concessions, floor ready standards, and markdown support and cancellations arrangements. Analyzes costs, sets pricing for assigned lines, and places bulk merchandise reservations and detail commitments; ensures merchandise orders are placed.
Develops pricing strategy to appropriately optimize pricing by channel. Sets item prices pre-season and in-season; develops life cycle, and exit strategy. Coordinates exit strategy and timing cleanup with Planning & Allocation, Inventory Planning, and Entity Merchandising Standards and Execution Manager.
Identifies items to maximize promotional and marketing strategies to meet Marketing and Company objectives; determines advertising timing and pricing by subdivision/item; develops merchandise stories for marketing messaging; provides direction and approval for product presentation in all channels; obtains samples.
Assesses competitive environment to determine appropriate merchandise statements and optimal price points. Monitors competitor merchandising and shares findings with stakeholders. Provides direction on private brand product development based on findings.
Provides guidance, coaching, training, and professional and personal development opportunities to ensure the retention, development, and advancement of assigned team members.
Core Competencies & Accomplishments:
College degree or equivalent business experience
8-12 years' experience in a buying office (preferably within Girls collection), and thorough expertise with fashion/lifestyle merchandising, and buying operations gained through progressively more responsible buying assignments.
