Product Design - Senior Designer 3/Checker 3
Warren, MI

  • Design highly complex sub-systems
  • Provide technical design leadership for a major sub-system
  • Mentors designers
  • Ensures communication between sub-system groups
  • Verifies quality of design team output (NOT A CHECKER)
  • Leads/facilitates design reviews
  • Resolves technical design conflicts
  • Ensures adherence to corporate standards
  • Adheres to the 4-phase VDP process
  • Assesses build ability, manufacturability and integration with Lead Design Engineer and Design Managers
  • Advises first line supervisors of project status, timing, resource availability and capability
  • Assist in establishing design completion dates

    Requirements:
  • Proficient skill set in CAD (NX, Teamcenter, Trubiquity AutoWeb, Vis Mockup, etc...), math release process, specifications, and data management
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Developing knowledge of the Vehicle Development Process
  • Interpersonal skills to work effectively with others including global partners
  • Developing knowledge of CAE and eGD&T
  • Proficient knowledge of product design concepts and manufacturing processes (i.e. injection molding, stamping, extrusion, machining, etc.)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and VisMockup
  • Analytical problem solving skills
  • Basic understanding of Specifications and Release terms and systems
  • Is able to assist other designers with design tasks when required
  • Proficient in appropriate design methods and procedures based on common modeling or virtual process
  • Developing understanding of manufacturability of components and subsystems
  • Participates in design and/or virtual reviews
  • Documents and maintains materials, mass, and other part specifications within the Math file
  • Completes NX Analysis for their subsystem. Applies results with direction of the DLT, VDLT, Senior Designer or Virtual Senior Designer
  • Coordinates input from multiple internal / external customers to meet requirements
  • Familiar with the Global Vehicle Development Process
  • Keeps abreast of current product developments and trends in area of responsibility
  • Shares lessons learned with DLT, VDLT and Manager
  • Creates math data (models) or virtual layouts, executes engineering changes, applies appropriate supporting design methods and procedures within the Vehicle Assemble Structure
  • Keeps Design Manager, DLT, or VDLT informed of project status, timing, and technical issues
  • Actively identifies new areas for learning and takes advantage of learning opportunities
  • In-depth understanding of unit's products and manufacturing operations
  • Well developed understanding of materials and components
  • Basic knowledge of algebra, geometry, trigonometry and computer graphics
  • Relatively high level of analytical and problem solving ability

    Required Education/Training:
  • Two-year Associates Degree in Automotive Design or equivalent experience
  • Extensive training in computer aided design and descriptive geometry
