Overview : Work assignments are varied and of the highest level of scope and complexity.

Duties: Prepare proposal design concepts, in cooperation with applications and sales engineers. Prepare complete complex system and equipment designs. Prepare required design support documents. Supervise designers and detailers on large projects. Work directly with customers during design phase or projects. Work directly with vendors for efficient component selection. Support project manager and assembly floor during build phase of projects. Check complex system and equipment designs. Break down information obtained from specifications, sketches, customer layout drawings, and instructions furnished by others and convert the information into detailed drawings with section views and dimensions. Perform a variety of mathematical calculations, using standard procedures. Coordinate with others to determine if drawings can be executed efficiently and within expected tolerances. Prepare Bill of Materials and specifications when drawings are complete. Provide technical help and review work completed to detailers and layout personnel. Work with the proposal group to develop concepts for future projects. Provide input on time required and component pricing for quotes. Serve as a technical advisor to the proposal group on the feasibility of the controls aspect of the design. Suggest alternatives to improve concepts and processes. May be asked to train lower level CAD Drafters.e.

Accountabilities : Responsible for adhering to project budget and working within loaded hours. Provide technical help to detailers.

Authority : To select proper components for a given project. Supervision is limited, but work product may be reviewed by engineers.


Education : Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience in the field and knowledge of machines and automation. Experience working with machines, selecting components, analyzing fit form and function.

Skills : Good mathematical skills. Advanced communication skills with emphasis on written documentation and correspondence. Excellent verbal skills to develop and explain design and project specifics. Working knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics. Ability to conceptualize and design complex machines. Ability to manage self and audit one's own work. Ability to perform bearing and structural calculations. Ability to check other's designs for soundness. Good knowledge base of mechanisms and materials. Proficiency in company software (Encompix, Groupwise, AutoCAD, SolidWorks).

Experience : 5+ years of drafting experience, or equivalent.

Personal Qualities : The ability to work well with people and independently, problem solver, organized, good written and verbal skills, strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize and multi-task..

Preferences : Experience working with machines, selecting components, analyzing fit form and function..

Environment : Typical office environment and minimal shop floor exposure

Physical Demands : Minimal, repetitive motion issues (such as carpal tunnel syndrome), light lifting (up to 40 lbs.)
