Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee. If the person selected is not affiliated with the Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA), he or she must become a member in good standing within 31 days of beginning work.
This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the AMEA.

This Seasonal Part-Time position has an approximate start date of 5/28/2013 and end date of 8/19/2013.
Example of Duties:
Tactfully and compassionately greet family members and friends of the deceased who visit the office. Assist them in locating their loved one's gravesites or Columbarium niches, select a location for future burial, place floral orders, provide memorial information or any other help they may need from the cemetery. Courteously answer the telephone and give accurate information about grave/niche location, services offered by the cemetery and hours of operations. Schedule and confirm burial services and office appointments, take messages when the director is unavailable, assist clients with forms and documents, type and file with meticulous attention to detail. Collect and process cemetery fees and complete reports as needed. Sensitively handle difficult visitors or callers and foster an environment for healthy grieving. Assist director in researching, updating and maintaining cemetery records and maps.
Professional appearance and a pleasing personality. Ability to tactfully empathize with and assist family members and friends who have lost a loved one. Proficient in multi-line phone, MS Excel, Word, Outlook and Publisher. Ability to operate basic office equipment: printer, photocopier, fax calculator. Moderate typing skills required. Ability to walk a 22-acre cemetery and locate items from a map.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Special Qualifications:
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and one (1) year of experience in office clerical work. Skill to type at a net of 35 WPM (see notice section). Applicant must possess a valid State of Alaska Driver's License by the time of hire.
In order to be considered for positions that require skill to type at a net of 35 WPM applicants must document his/her typing speed on the application or provide an attachment with this information.
Veterans who wish to be considered for interview preference as allowed in the Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) Contract Bargaining Agreement Art. 6.10.1 A must attach a copy of their DD Form 214 to the application. The DD Form 214 must show an honorable discharge. Minimum Qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted Background Check. A Background Check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.
If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a copy of the applicant’s Alaska Driver’s License and a current copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states if the Alaskan driver’s license was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history. The processing fee(s) are the responsibility of the selected applicant.
All required certifications and licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.
