Chief Development OfficerJob #2315495Qualifications: 1. Demonstrated leadership abilities in managing teams, developing and achieving financial goals and working with the Board of Directors. 2. Five years of work experience with evidence of progressively increased administrative responsibilities, preferably in a non-profit setting. 3. A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in marketing, public relations and development required: previous experience managing employees preferred. Strong writing, interpersonal and organizational skills required, personal computer skills including word processing, data base management and spreadsheet proficiency required. Major Responsibilities: Develops and updates as required the strategic fund development plan aligning with the strategic plan of the organization. Directs the implementation of the strategic fund development plan with identified goals, objectives and strategies. Develops a gift plan for each major donor and actively manages the portfolio of donors with potential to make leadership gifts. Directs the development of donor recognition programs and ensures appropriate donor stewardship. Develops policies that include acceptance of gifts restricted or non-restricted inclusive of in-kind gifts, naming of funds, endowment management and other policies which assure consistent ethical management of donor funds. Supervises the following positions: Campaign Director, Campaign Assistant, Community Relations Director and Community Relations Assistant. Provides overall leadership and direction in matters of fund development for Orchards Childrens Services and Orchards Foundation. Conducts interviews, hires, trains, mentors and evaluates staff in Orchards Childrens Services fund development department. Places emphasis on staff growth and development as well as maintenance of an appropriate level of technical proficiency. Participates with the governing Board of Orchards Childrens Services in planning the future direction of Orchards Foundation in a manner, which is consistent with the organizational mission, value, community need, and the economic solvency of the agency. Provides leadership in the development of the long-range strategic plan for Orchards Foundation. 10. Working with Orchards Childrens Services Governance Committee, assists the Orchards Childrens Services Board of Directors in the selection and orientation process for new Orchards Foundation Board members, which is consistent with Board policy. 11. Provides information and guidance to CEO and Orchards Childrens Services Board of Directors regarding current and projected trends, areas of deficiency, and significant activities in the fundraising field to facilitate Board direction and practice. 12. Identifies and recruits appropriate community leaders to participate in the fund development/public relations activities of Orchards Foundation. 13. Works closely with the Chief Executive Officer and the Chief Financial Officer to identify key areas of Orchards Childrens Services plan for identifying priorities for philanthropic support.14. Mentors a culture of philanthropy that supports the mission, values, and vision of Orchards Childrens Services and with the mission and vision of Orchards Foundation.15. Coordinates all fundraising activities within Orchards Childrens Services, including annual, capital, major, grant writing, planned giving and special events at the agency. 16. Recruits, develops, and supervises fundraising and community relations staff in order to move the agenda of Orchards Foundation forward.17. Works collaboratively with other members of the management team of Orchards Childrens Services.18. Encourages awareness of Orchards Foundation and its support of Orchards Childrens Services with the community through effective communication and active involvement in a positive public relations program.19. Maintains professional affiliations and enhanced professional growth and development by keeping abreast of the latest trends in child welfare policy and fundraising developments.20. Positively represents Orchards Childrens Services and Orchards Foundation in community activities.Other: 1 Assists in planning marketing activities to increase branding of Orchards Childrens Services. Assists in preparation of brochures, posters, advertisements, news releases etc. in conjunction with overall goals of fund development department. Attends trainings as required. Prepares donor and activity reports for Board member review and approval. Performs related tasks as assigned. Organizational Relationships The Chief Developmental Officer reports to the Orchards Childrens Services President/CEO. The Chief Development Officer works closely with the President, other executives, appropriate department directors, and volunteers of Orchards Childrens Services as well as members of Orchards Foundation Board of Directors and the Orchards Advisory Board of Directors.
