CITY EMPLOYEES ONLY – This is a city employee only recruitment for all current Denver City employees with or without Career Service status.

This vacancy is with the Traffic Engineering Services division of Public Works and will operate a Paint Striper truck as well as other equipment including snowplows during snow events.

Job Responsibilities:

Performs the full range of operations on the paint striper truck.

Performs general laboring duties for projects relating to signs and markings on the City streets.

May perform lead work on a rotating or job by job basis. Provides training to less experienced personnel.

Assists in the preventative maintenance of equipment such as adding oil, greasing changing bulbs, and changing air filters as assigned.

Observes all common safety practices associated with equipment operations.

Performs inspections of equipment for such things as fluid levels, leaks, condition of hoses and belts, tire pressure, brake lights and related areas as may be required by agency or Colorado Department of Motor Vehicles.

Some positions participate in snow removal duties as assigned.

Some positions review and interpret engineer drawings, plan and work orders for traffic marking, signal, and signage projects.


Education Requirement:
Graduation from high school or a GED certificate desirable.

Experience Requirement:
Two years of experience as Senior Utility Worker.
Three years of experience as a Utility Worker in the Career Service system where the primary assignment was to assist the Equipment Operator or Equipment Operator Specialist.
Two years of experience as an Equipment Operator in the Career Service system.
700 hours of Equipment Operator Specialist differential.

In addition to the minimum requirements listed above, you must also demonstrate on your application some experience or cross-training operating the Paint Striper truck.

Licensure and/or Certification:
Possession of a valid Colorado Commercial Driver’s License CDL “B” with appropriate endorsements at the time of application. Any air brake restrictions (L) must be lifted at the time of application. License must be kept current as a condition of continued employment in this class.

Probationary Period : The successful candidate will be required to complete a minimum six month probationary period (benefits will be active during this time) prior to attaining Career Status with the City.
