Provide certification for veteran's affairs educational benefits. Advise prospective and admitted veterans, military personnel and their dependents on the full spectrum of veterans services. Be knowledgeable of and use professional judgment in concert with Federal and State rules and regulations in determining veteran and military personnel. Represent the College and its programs and activities at events and locations on and off campus. Serve as VA liaison with Financial Aid, Cashiers Office and other offices.

DUTIES OF POSITION:
*(DENOTES ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)
*1. Provide critical administrative service and data entry for key veteran's affairs processes, including certifications for VA benefits. VA file creation and maintenance supporting data security as all documents have bank information and social security numbers.
*2. Contribute to attainment of 100% federal and state compliance requirements. Use professional judgment in concert with Federal Rules and Regulations in determining veteran benefit eligibility and all other Veterans and Military Personnel educational benefit programs. Serve as secondary Federal Certifying Official.
*3. Provide informational advice to prospective and admitted students through individual and group methods either in person or through follow-up phone calling, social media and other electronic mediums. Advise students and process degree audits to determine federal and state benefit eligibility.
*4. Provide exemplary customer service in all interactions with outreach contacts including, but not limited to, community members, business contacts, College faculty, staff, administrators and admitted and prospective students (in compliance with FERPA guidelines).
*5. Represent the College and its programs and activities at events and locations such as Veterans Benefit Fairs, Veteran Service Agency meetings and other off-campus veteran specific events.
6. Serve as one of the Veterans Services liaisons with the Student Financial Assistance, Cashier's Office and other offices where Veterans Benefits must be monitored. Analyze problems pertaining to financial assistance with emphasis on prompt resolution and student satisfaction.
*7. Work closely with the Coordinator, Veteran's Services to maintain the website and email account as well as other multimedia resources.
8. Serve on the College's Veteran's Committee and assist the Coordinator with the Student Veteran's Organization.
9. Perform data inquiry utilizing the VA Once Portal, GoArmyEd and other online military tuition assistance databases.
10. Perform other duties as assigned by the Coordinator, Veterans and Military Personnel Student Services.

EDUCATION:

Required:
Associate's Degree in a related field or a combination of equivalent experience and education.

Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Communication, Marketing, Continuing Education, Higher Education Administration, Student Service Personnel and/or previous attendance at a community college.

EXPERIENCE:

Required:
Excellent technology skills and literacy. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Outstanding interpersonal skills including the ability to interact with a diverse range of students and people with disabilities. One to two (1-2) years' experience working with veterans benefits and other military programs. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality is required.

Preferred: Prior military experience or experience serving military personnel and dependents strongly preferred. Experience in a high volume customer service unit in higher education strongly preferred. Excellent knowledge of FERPA and College policies preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.

EQUIPMENT AND/OR MACHINES USED:
Computer, copier, laser printer, FAX, multi-line telephone and computer projector.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Must be able to lift materials up to 30 lbs. Must be able to walk distances and climb stairs with College materials. Some evening and weekend hours required. Must have a valid Illinois driver's license. Criminal background check is required for this position.
