The CLIA Lab Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations of the sequencing lab, which will be processing a large number of DNA sequencing and related assays. The assays will be processed in a CLIA environment and include sample handling and storage, DNA preparation, sequencing operations, sequence data interpretation and result reporting. This includes managing a team of lab technicians for production sequencing and working closely with a team of production bioinformaticians.

In addition, this Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations of a very large-scale CLIA-certified DNA sequencing laboratory, manage and mentor a team of technicians to carry out relevant laboratory assays, work with a team of production bioinformatics and laboratory information management systems (LIMS) engineers to facilitate laboratory operations, and develop and maintain CLIA protocols and identify areas of improvement and extension for the laboratory. This will include, creating documentation to cover protocols for laboratory operations, identifying more efficient protocols for laboratory operations and assisting in the evaluation and monitoring of new protocols and CLIA certification processes.

Qualified candidates are required to have a Ph.D. degree in molecular biology or a related laboratory-based discipline, 2-4 years leading CLIA certification and laboratory operations, 2-4 years’ experience with high-throughput laboratory operations, at least 2 years of direct staff management experience and a current California issued CLS license. In addition, 5+ years of experience in overseeing high-throughput CLIA production laboratory operations, 5+ years distinguished experience working with and overseeing large-scale DNA sequencing equipment, 5+ years of experience in a laboratory setting with extensive need for LIMS software; flexibility in DNA sequencing processing activities, including DNA preparation protocols, storage, sequencing equipment operations and downstream computational interpretation workflows and 5+ years of experience working in a team-environment pursuing large-scale biological initiatives, is highly desirable.
