To operate Computer Numerical Control (C.N.C) machines to rough and finish machine castings, remove gates, make fixtures, and complete targeting machining to meet customer and PCC specifications; assists in the development and editing of machine programs.

1. Machine Operations.

Objective: to produce quality castings without mutilation and in compliance with customer specifications.

Essential Job Functions:
A. Checks tool offsets and controller program functions.
B. Calls up program, fixtures parts and runs CNC machine operations.
C. Sets up and runs multiple machines for programs that run without operators, in order to make efficient use of time.
D. Completes cleanup and preventative maintenance of machines during programmed machine runs.
E. Recommends improvements to machine programs and methods to supervisor. Edits programs as requested. Develops machine programs as needed (Machining only).

2. Set-up.

Objective: to position fixtures and parts for machining to assure compliance with dimensional specifications.

Essential Job Functions:
A. Reviews and follows technique cards, set-up cards and tooling sheets.
B. Positions fixture and/or part on table according to specifications.
C. Selects proper tooling for machine operation as directed.
D. Ensures quality of tooling.
E. Sets-up tooling in machine according to job plan.

3. Safety.

Objective: to take responsibility for and demonstrate safe work practices.

Essential Job Functions:
A. Adheres to plant and department safety rules.
B. Safely operates all machines and equipment.
C. Uses safety equipment and lifting equipment when applicable.
D. Identifies and reports safety problems.

4. Completes logs and records.

5. Meets all production and quality standards.

6. Performs other tasks as assigned.

1. CNC machines.
2. Hand tools (e.g. wrenches, hammer, mallet, screwdrivers, pliers, vice grips).
3. Hoist.
4. Pallet jack.
5. Mechanical measuring tools (e.g. calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, gages, etc.)
6. Fork lift (Targeting only).
7. Personal computer (Targeting only).

Required Skills

Required Experience

1. Completion of C.N.C Machine Technology program and at least two years of machining experience, including targeting, C.N.C. machining and programming, and blueprint reading,
An equivalent combination of classroom training, apprenticeship and experience.

2. Ability to read, interpret and follow specifications on Technique cards, job plans, Quality Control Manuals, blueprints and drawings.

3. Ability to perform trigonometry calculations.

4. Ability to recognize, evaluate and respond to problems during the machining process.

5. Thorough knowledge of tooling and set-up procedures.

6. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

7. Ability to read and use mechanical measuring devices.

8. Ability to work independently, with limited supervision.

9. Physical ability to perform the essential job functions.

NOTE: CNC Machinists must supply their own full compliment of hand tools to satisfactorily meet quality requirements of the position.
