Job Summary & Essential Functions: The following describes in general terms the purpose and scope of the position. Responsible for writing and updating computer-numerical control (CNC) programs to control contour path machining of metal parts or tooling on automatic machine tools.
  • Analyzes drawings, sketches, and design data of part to determine dimension and configuration of cuts, selection of cutting tools, and machine speeds and feed rates.
  • Creates and evaluates tool designs and coordinates with engineering for appropriate changes.
  • Analyzes and designs machine holding fixtures for parts.
  • Computes angular and linear dimensions, radii, and curvatures, and outlines sequence of operations required to machine part.
  • Prepares geometric layout using Unigraphics software to show location of reference points and direction of cutting paths.
  • Writes instruction sheets, check sheets, and cutter lists to guide setup and operation of machine.
  • Write programs for CNC milling machines.
  • Compares computer printout with original program sheet to assure accuracy of machine instructions.
  • Revises program to eliminate instruction errors or omissions.
  • Observes operation of programs using vericut to prove out tool paths.
  • Maintain digital electronic data.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate.

  • Regularly required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls.
  • Occasionally required to stoop; kneel; or crouch.
  • Working conditions are: 70% office environment, 30% manufacturing environment.
  • Noise level is usually moderate.
  • Frequently works near moving mechanical parts.
  • Safety glasses (ANSI Z87 compliant) required in all manufacturing areas.
  • Hearing protection must be worn in designated manufacturing areas.
  • Fully enclosed shoes, leather construction, must be worn in all manufacturing areas.

  • Two years Unigraphics, preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and mylars
  • Pleasant personality, must interact with all levels of personnel
  • Overtime and weekend work as needed to support manufacturing
  • Read and understand internal procedures and policies
  • Team oriented with a continuous improvement outlook
  • Basic Computer Skills: Able to learn new screens, reports, functions and simple software programs with assistance
  • Ability to manage numerous projects and meet deadlines as required
  • Ability to work independently and a good memory for detail
  • Strong analytical and communication skills and meticulous work habits
Required Experience Required Experience/Education/Training/Certifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess the outlined experience level, education, training, minimum years of experience, product or industry knowledge plus any certifications in order to be considered.
  • Associate‚Äôs degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Two years machining background required
  • Basic Computer Skills: Able to learn new screens, reports, functions and simple software programs with assistance
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and mylars
