GENERAL SUMMARY : Ensures proper assignment of Diagnosis Related Groups; handles most complex technical cases. Participates in the identification and resolution of discrepancies in documentation; assists in training as necessary. Participates in quality assessment and continuous quality improvement activities. Performs all job duties and responsibilities in a courteous and customer-focused manner according to the Hurley Family Standards of Behavior.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED : Works under the general supervision of the Assistant Director for Coding and Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI).
MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS :
o Certification as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT); or eligibility for certification as an RHIA* or RHIT.
o Documented education and/or experience in ICD-9CM coding and DRG reimbursement.
o Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written modes.
o Ability to interact successfully and maintain harmonious relationships with physicians and Medical Center personnel.
*NOTE: RHIA certification or eligibility will be equated with one (1) year of work experience.
Employees appointed to this classification who do not possess the RHIA or RHIT certification must successfully pass the RHIA or RHIT examination within two (2) years from date of appointment. Failure to attain certification as an RHIA or RHIT within the two (2) year period may result in the termination of employment
