Job Description:
Perform highly specialized diagnosis and procedure coding for hospital based E/M services and bedside procedures. Verifies all patient personal data for accuracy and resolves any discrepancies that require knowledge of the Hospital’s HIS computer system and Epic. Responsible for reviewing reports to determine billable services and for applying appropriate codes ,as well as, accurate and timely processing of charges in Epic.

Establishes and maintains positive relationships with physicians and co-workers, communicates effectively with physicians, nursing, other clinical staff and co-workers about coding/documentation/compliance issues and participates in coding/documentation/compliance related discussions.

Attend periodic meetings, seminars and classes to improve coding skills. Remain current on coding and compliance information/guidelines and to become an expert in this specialized area of coding. Reviews publications for same purpose. This is an important aspect of this position as coding and compliance changes are numerous and affect the reimbursement to the department for services performed.

Minimum Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent and one year of appropriate experience. Appropriate college course work may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Ability to handle confidential material in compliance with HIPAA . Licensure and Certifications-Certified Professional Coder ( CPC ) (American Academy of Professional Coders) or Certified Coding Specialist ( CCS -P) (American Health Information Management Association) or Certified Coding Associate ( CCA ) (American Health Information Management Association) required.

Preferred Qualifications:
Epic system knowledge preferred.

Incumbent must be comfortable speaking wiht physicians and payers regarding procedure and diagnosis relationships, billing rules and payment variances.
