COLLEGEdata Technical Lead

As Technical Lead for the COLLEGEdata application ( ), a leading college planning website, you will provide overall technical leadership for development and maintenance of all aspects of the application. You will drive the design and construction of enhancements to COLLEGEdata and understand the technologies used by COLLEGEdata. You will liaise between the business team and the overseas engineering teams who maintain COLLEGEdata.

You must have outstanding leadership ability, excellent communication skills in both a technical and business setting, ability to work with a diverse team and to drive development from design concept to final implementation.

  • Software architecture
  • High level and low level design
  • Author and owner of overall software architecture design
  • Lead the investigation of new technologies and frameworks
  • Lead design and code reviews
  • Play key role for in-house and out-sourced development projects during all development phases. Lead the technical use case analysis and signoff, high-level and detailed technical design specification, and other related technical activities
  • Collaborate with Product Managers during requirements development, with emphasis on applying research and experience in guiding technical approaches
  • Collaborate with Project Manager to define initial and final project timelines and estimates
  • Facilitate high-level and detailed design and review sessions with internal and overseas development staff
  • Conduct regular design and code review sessions to promote software quality
  • Participate in process review and updates to ensure that technical design processes and systems meet changing business conditions
  • Provide evaluation and recommendations on future use of new technology.
  • Assist on other projects as time permits

  • Bachelor's degree in MIS, computer science, or engineering
  • In depth hands-on knowledge of J2EE Application Servers, RDBMS (Oracle preferred), O/R mapping tools (Hibernate), Spring Application Framework, XML, Struts, MooTools, UNIX and related technologies
  • Expert in OO design methodologies, iterative development (e.g. RUP), data modeling, problem identification and interpretation, change management, security and performance tuning for applications
  • Experience with web-based applications with complex, media-rich, highly interactive front ends
  • Experience working with cross-functional groups (Product Management, Engineering, QA) to deliver thorough technical designs and drive implementation of technical standards using software engineering best practices
  • Experience working with overseas development teams a real plus
  • Technical consulting experience a plus
  • Familiarity with full project development life cycle
  • Experience with definition of technical requirements
  • Superior technical design skills are essential
  • Experience and strong interest in third party APIs, such as Facebook, Google, and YouTube preferred
  • At least 3 years of demonstrated experience in a senior or lead engineer or application architect role in a J2EE and web application environment
  • 7-10 years experience with iterative development process
  • 7-10 years experience translating business requirements into technical solutions
  • 7-10 years working in a J2EE web application environment
