Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience in journalism, public relations, communications or related field. Three years experience in media relations, communications, public relations or related field. Strong, demonstrated verbal and written communications skills. Working knowledge of AP Style. Ability to interact comfortably with faculty and staff at all levels. Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. Ability to perform all tasks and job responsibilities safely without injury to self and others in compliance with A&M System and HSC guidelines.

Preferred Education and Experience:
Master’s degree preferred. Five years experience in media relations, communications, public relations or related field. Experience working with reporters/news media. Experience with media tracking software and content management system.

Job Detail:
Carry out prescribed writing/editing assignments, including but not limited to news releases and advisories, media pitches, fact sheets, marketing collateral, and web/social media content aimed at increasing the visibility of TAMHSC activities and achievements at a local, state, and national level. Monitors target media; tracks media hits; oversees media contacts database; participates in proactive media relations efforts, including working with component communications staff and faculty experts to identify news generation opportunities; works closely with AVP and component communications staff to manage media requests. Reviews and edits communications pieces developed for external audiences with an eye on brand/style consistency and appropriate integrations of TAMHSC’s key communication messages.
Creates, reviews, and updates web-based news materials. Acts as a content provider and approver for the content management system.
Works with other members of the team to plan, develop, and advance strategic social media activities. Assists in planning, implementing, and promoting special events and programs, with an emphasis on press conferences.
