Our client seeks an executive-level Head of Operations with an entrepreneurial mindset who is passionate about building strong companies and looking to help grow a successful next-generation, tech-based business incubator. The Head of Operations will report directly to the CEO.

Preferred Candidate

The preferred candidate will be an experienced local business executive with a proven track record of advancement through positions of increasing responsibility and a demonstrated ability to create and seize opportunities for improving outcomes. The successful candidate will be a self-starting, analytical individual with strong leadership and teamwork skills, technical supervision experience, and the ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects. Adaptable and reliable in the face of conflict or crisis, the preferred candidate will have demonstrable experience with business or division startups in a technically-oriented industry as well as a track record of translating strategic thinking into action plans.

Job Description

As the successful candidate, you will provide leadership, guidance, oversight, and direction to our Client’s day-to-day operations at the bio center. You will oversee and coordinate the Company’s business operations, including administration, purchasing, IT, HR, and the physical plant. Through your team of project managers, you will monitor the operations of the startup clients, including tech-based firms focused on drug development, recombinant protein expression, advanced manufacturing, e-commerce, analytical services, and novel materials. Although travel is not a primary feature of this position, some travel might be required. This position offers an opportunity for rapid growth at the nexus of several exciting new areas of technology development as you help build a premier business-startup organization at the bio center.


Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, management, or a related discipline from a 4-year university
10+ years of executive-level experience managing operations
Strong financial-management skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Effective and reliable leader with a strong work ethic and an ability to motivate teams
Superior project-management skills and an ability to rapidly craft creative and appropriate solutions
High level of proficiency with PC-based MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher)
Systematic and analytical thinker
Effective persuader in positive and negative situations

Additional Qualifications

MBA in business, finance, management, or a related discipline
B2B sales management and/or supervisory experience
Experience managing a facility
Proficiency with MS Project and MIS and CRM business software applications
Special skill in proactively building personal relationships
Effective trainer and educator

Company Operations

Oversee and manage Company day-to-day activities
Optimize the Company’s cash flow and issue monthly summary reports
Handle purchasing, invoicing, accounts payable and receivable, and collections
Oversee and administer inbound and outbound logistics
Prioritize, plan, and organize work activities, staff, and resources to optimize efficiency
Assign projects and monitor results and efficacy
Ensure compliance with internal controls

Client Operations

Supervise, manage, and coordinate the client-management staff
Monitor the drafting and maintenance of business plans, including strategies, budgets, and forecasts
Monitor and help optimize the clients’ operational cash flow and finances
Provide contracted business services to the clients

Purchasing, invoicing, accounts payable and receivable, and collections
Inbound and outbound logistics

Coordinate inventories across the clients
Ensure compliance with internal controls

Sales and Marketing

Interact with the clients’ S&M functions to ensure customer satisfaction and identify market needs
Assist with planning and budgeting

Executive Team Member

Support the team in creating and implementing a shared vision for the organization
Contribute to setting goals and objectives across the Company and the clients
Oversee the drafting and maintenance of management systems and SOPs
Help to establish and maintain an environment which facilitates and motivates the employees
Support operations functions throughout the company
Ensure that all programs and services comply with applicable laws, regulations, and certification
Help develop short- and long-term plans, programs, and budgets
Write and edit business reports
Consult with the team regarding significant changes in policy, strategic direction, or operating plans
Communicate potential legal exposure or material changes in financial status
Ensure the implementation of appropriate operational controls and reporting procedures
Identify and prioritize internal research programs and projects
Communicate business issues to management, clients, and customers
Provide feedback regarding the efficacy of the Company’s policies and programs
Help ensure that the right people are always in the right positions
Provide timely, accurate, and complete reports on the operating condition of the Company

Talent Development

Help identify team members with exceptional potential or special talents
Help produce a talent-development plan tailored to each such individual
Continually mentor and develop staff talent with an eye to the company’s needs
