The Craftsperson-Grounds position schedules & participates in the timely, thorough, & efficient maintenance of the facility’s outdoor equipment & grounds in a professional, efficient & cost effective manner. Participates in the scheduled & emergency upkeep of the facilities grounds to maximize uptime, employee & environmental safety, & efficiency. Ensures assignments, performance, & quality control are to the highest standard of grounds keeping, landscaping, pest control, & snow removal & site safety.
  • As authorized participates in the application of fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides.
  • Participates in all grounds keeping programs. Assists with all grounds keeping duties including (but not limited to) maintenance, mowing, trimming, edging, pruning shrubs/trees (to shape & to improve growth), removal of leaves/branches/twigs, use of powered & hand-operated tools, etc. Assists with the Identification, establishment, & supervision of projects for problem areas & with the inspection of each plaza to verify that critical needs are met. Participates in the design, materials purchasing, snow removal, salt spreading, litter removal, raking/bagging of leaves, repair of lawn sprinkler systems/fences/walls/gates/walks/outbuildings & equipment & maintenance of drains/ditches/swales/head walls/culverts etc as required.
  • Stays informed through training classes on the proper care of, use of and safety precautions for each plant, fertilizer, herbicide, insecticide, cleansing agent, technique, or piece of equipment. Ensures that use of chemicals and equipment is legally compliant, industry approved, & in a safe manner in accordance with applicable safety regulations.
  • Adjusts to findings of project/building/product audits to insure quality, cleanliness & safety. Stays informed through training classes & seminars of OSHA & other applicable work place related regulations & ensures compliance with safety regulations, procedures, & the proper usage of trade & safety equipment. Stays informed through training classes to operate/maintain all groundskeeping equipment in a workmanlike manner that is safe & legally compliant.
  • Is readily available for overtime work and on a mandatory basis during work related emergencies as determined by Building Operations Management including but not limited to working with and taking direction from Building Operations Management and department management on large scale snow removal and de-icing efforts.
  • Other responsibilities as deemed necessary by Building Operations and Corporate Facilities Management.


  • High School Diploma
  • Apprenticeship and/or vocational training
  • 1 – 2 years commercial building grounds and maintenance experience
  • Ability to lift and move supplies and equipment, operate trade related tools, and legally operate a motor vehicle.
  • Must wear protective clothing as required by the work environment and/or government regulations.
  • OSHA, EPA, and NJDEP trained to ensure the corporation’s compliance to applicable Site Safety regulations
