Cafe Attendant: This position is part-time, Monday-Friday 11am-4pm with occasional Saturday shift to cover for other employees on vacation. A Food Handlers card is required.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF JOB:
Take and serve orders, prepare food and drink, and perform general café work.
DUTIES/ESSENTIAL JOB TASKS:
Maintain a clean cafe and ensure compliance with health and sanitation regulations.
Prepare foodstuffs and supplies in anticipation of need.
Take food and drink orders from customers over the counter and by phone
Cook and prepare customer food orders, make espresso drinks.
Serve people at tables, and clear and clean tables
Order supplies, monitor and maintain inventories.
Collect payment and arrange billings, maintain and balance cash register and EFTPOS machine.
Additional tasks as assigned.
Experience in and knowledge of methods and procedures relating to food preparation and presentation gained in a grill, snack bar, restaurant, club or similar food activity.
WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:
Works primarily indoors, may be exposed to elevated kitchen temperatures.
Occasional outdoors activities of limited duration, including using cooking grill and cleaning and serving outdoors tables.
Limited outdoors exposure to cooking smoke from cooking grill.
TOOLS, EQUIPMENT AND MACHINES USED:
General kitchen equipment including knives, oven, microwave, grill, refrigerator, scales, slicing machine, espresso machine, steam table. General cleaning equipment including mop and vacuum.
Standing/walking for short distances: ¾ to entire work shift, on hard surfaces.
Sitting: not required.
Carrying: occasionally, up to 20 pounds for up to 30 feet; rarely, up to 40 pounds for up to 200 feet.
Lifting: same as carrying
Bending/stooping: frequently, to clean under tables, to access supplies in under counter cabinets, to maintain equipment in drink machines.
Twisting: while standing, to access counter materials.
Reaching above shoulder height: frequently, to access supplies on shelves.
Hearing and speech capability adequate to accept and confirm orders with clients in person and by telephone.
