The Campus and Community Relations Specialist plays a lead role in internal and external communication, event planning, and community relations for the Loudoun Campus.
Duties and Responsibilities
Works with the Provost and other Loudoun Campus stakeholders to promote visibility and a positive image of the campus in the community. Plays a leadership role in initiatives to increase enrollment and retention. Develops internal communications through electronic and other means. Provides leadership for campus-based marketing, event planning, and public information. Develops and implements innovative strategies for marketing of Loudoun Campus programs, events, and services. Builds positive relationships between the campus and its surrounding community in accordance with campus and college public relations goals. Works collaboratively with the Vice President for Institutional Advancement and associated staff to develop marketing and strategic outreach plans. Supervises part-time staff as assigned; oversees quality of messages; supervises marketing messages for internal television monitors and external electronic signs; works with college Public Information Officers to develop external communications. Serves as the communication coordinator for the campus in the event of an emergency. Completes special projects assigned by the campus Provost.
Bachelors degree in business, management, marketing, public relations, communications, education or related field, or equivalent training & experience; a minimum of two years preferred experience in promoting educational programs and/or developing partnerships with educational stakeholders. Experience in writing informational/marketing materials and event planning. Knowledge of social media. Experience in writing and presenting proposals and/or marketing plans.
Masters degree in business, management, marketing, public relations, communications, education or related field; community college experience; familiarity with local service area business, educational, press, and governmental entities; event planning experience; experience in writing proposals and winning support for them.

A high degree of professionalism and the ability to work successfully with the Provost, the Provost’s staff, and the Marketing and Communications Office. Superior verbal and written communication skills. Outstanding interpersonal skills. Proficient computer skills, with emphasis on electronic communication skills in a web-based environment. Knowledge of social networking and other cutting-edge communication tools. Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities. A goal-oriented multi-tasker.Knowledge of the Northern Virginia/Loudoun County area. Must be proficient at working in a team environment.
