The capital markets regulatory counsel will be part of a team responsible for addressing Wellington Management’s regulatory obligations associated with the firm’s capital markets activities, Regulatory support for the firm’s derivatives activities will comprise a substantial portion of this lawyer’s responsibilities through 2013. We expect the mix of responsibilities to change through time as the firm’s business and the regulatory landscape evolve.
The position is for a US qualified attorney with broad knowledge of the securities laws related to investment management and capital markets regulation. Some derivatives experience is helpful but not a pre-requisite for consideration. While the position is in the US legal group, some support of the firm’s non-US businesses may be involved.
Analyze and help implement regulations that support investment and trading activity of derivatives and other investments. Support the business groups servicing the firm's derivative and other investment efforts. Counsel investment and trading professionals on the rules and regulations associated with trading in equity and fixed-income securities on a global basis. Participate in group wide projects in support of the firm’s capital markets and other regulatory obligations.
6-12+ years of experience practicing law
Broad based asset management experience dealing with complex products, regulatory structures and legal issues
Some derivatives experience helpful but not required
Experience at an investment adviser, national law firm or federal regulatory agency preferred
Strong legal and analytical skills
Good business judgment and strong counseling skills
Creativity and ability to work under pressure
Ability to represent the firm with external clients
Proven written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
