Hours: Approx. 10-12 hrs/week, 2:30 p.m.- 5:30 pm

Salary: Commiserate with Experience

The YWCA of the City of New York After School Program at MurryBergtraumHigh School is a dynamic program that works to help students develop intellectual curiosity, academic ability, social values and personal resiliency they need to ensure success in school, career and life. Our core mission is to empower women and eliminate racism.

The YWCA-NYC seeks a dynamic instructor and motivator, interested in helping low income high school youth on the college and career track fulfill their educational, social, and professional potential.

Primary Responsibilities :
Plan and implement interactive and student centered college prep and career readiness curriculum

Conduct weekly meetings and workshops to deliver life skills, college prep and career readiness programming

Encourage and develop leadership skills by electing student club leaders to support active student engagement in program design

Submit all required paperwork in a timely manner

Track students’ academic progress monthly by reviewing report cards, student programs, lesson plans and test scores.

Document and assess students’ progress throughout the year long program

Assist in coordination of two annual college prep seminars for parents

Coordinate and chaperone special events and field trips including out of state college tours

Provide one on one guidance and advice, and referrals to college bound students and families

Attend required staff meetings and meet with Director and Assistant Director

Devise strategies to recruit and retain students in program

Deep knowledge of higher education system and college application process

At least Junior or Senior Undergraduate or college graduate

Experience with and passion for working with high school age youth

Ability to take initiative and work collaboratively and productively

Ability and willingness to commit to entire program and program philosophy

High degree of motivation and creativity

Ability and willingness to have fun in the classroom

Excellent writing and group facilitation skills

Excellent organizational and planning skills

Must be punctual
