DESCRIPTION Career Day
**By appointment only** The Bowery Residents’ Committee (BRC) will be hosting al Career Day event to recruit staff for our new 200-bed Assessment shelter in Greenpoint Brooklyn. For the past 40 years, BRC is where people change their lives. We are one of New York City’s largest and most comprehensive social services agencies. We house over 1,500 people daily, and serve nearly 9,000 individuals annually. We help the neediest of New Yorkers overcome the challenges in their life – addiction, physical and mental illness, histories of unemployment, incarceration and homelessness – and empower those we serve to reclaim their dignity, self-confidence and independence. BRC is where people come to change their lives, and our programs and staff enable that change to happen. Our guiding philosophy is to offer a hand-up, not a hand-out; helping people to help themselves and thereby helping them achieve lasting solutions. We operate 27 programs throughout New York City, including outreach programs, residential and outpatient treatment programs for mental illness and substance abuse, and permanent and transitional housing. BRC employs nearly 600 full-time and part-time employees. HOURS: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week
Various Shifts
Evening- 3:00 pm – 11:30 pm
Overnight- 11:00 pm – 7:30 am
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Prepare and serve pre-packaged meals and snacks. Maintain appropriate sanitary conditions in dining area. Receive and store program supplies and food deliveries. Answer phones. Provide administrative support to clinical team as needed. Handle program mail. Monitor and report on client interactions. Responsible for making appropriate log book entries. Emergency response and crisis intervention as needed. Responsible for greeting visitors to the facility in a professional manner. Provide relief at various posts as needed. Provide emergency first aid/CPR assistance when needed. Related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or GED required. Computer literacy preferred. Experience working with homeless preferred. Good writing and oral communication skills. Must possess the ability to follow directions and work closely with others. Food Handling, Fire Safety and First Aid/CPR Certifications or the ability to pass test to acquire this credentials required. Fire safety director strongly preferred. CPR training certification or willingness to take training class in CPR. SALARY: $28,539 ($14.63/ hr)
