Position Summary: Assembles and disassembles wooden structures such as concrete forms, scaffolds, tunnel and sewer supports, and temporary frame shelters, according to sketches, blueprints, or oral instruction.

Example of Activities:
  • Drives stakes, and stretches tight line
  • Examines specifications or blueprints to determine dimensions of structure
  • Measures boards, timbers, or plywood, using square, measuring fresh concrete or epoxy compound
  • Molds expansion joints and edges, using edging tools, jointers, and straightedge
  • May sprinkle colored stone chips, powdered steel, or coloring powder on concrete to produce prescribed finish
  • May produce rough concrete surface using broom
  • May mix cement, using hoe or concrete-mixing machine
  • May direct sub grade work, mixing of concrete, and setting of forms
  • Able to read a folding rule to the nearest fraction of an inch
  • Able to read an engineers rule to the nearest hundredth of a foot
  • Able to climb ladder and work 35 feet in the air on scaffolding
  • Operate power tools including but not limited to trowels, bull float, hand float, edging tools, jointers, straightedge, chisel, hammer, broom, builder's level
  • Operate hand tools including but not limited to power grinder, power trowel, concrete saw cutter, electric sprayer
  • Perform continuous troweling motion requiring flexibility of elbow, shoulder for 4 hours at a time
  • Work on hands and knees for 4 hours at a time
  • Set wet pads using line
  • Operate gate on concrete bucket
  • May be required to use hand signals to direct equipment operators
  • May be required to rig and unrig materials per company policy
  • Erect scaffolding and take it down
  • Move form boards from one location to another on flat ground
  • Read direct reading rods
  • Set up and adjust a tripod and builders level
  • Use a builder's level to check footing elevations and to perform differential leveling
  • Set up and adjust a combination level-transit
  • Perform a volumetric-method air content test, temperature test and unit weight test

Essential knowledge, skills and responsibilities:
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen
  • Ability to maintain satisfactory attendance and punctuality standard
Valued but not required knowledge, skills and experience:
  • Prefer minimum of High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience in water and/or wastewater construction (industrial construction)
Physical demands and work environment: Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Requires willingness to work in a field (job-site) environment. Expose to rain, sleet, snow, dust, mud, heat, sun, cold, noise, and other conditions common to a construction site. Contractual obligations may require irregular hours, weekend, and holidays.
