A cashier scans merchandise for the customer in order to get a total cost for their items purchased and conducts an exchange of money (or other acceptable substitutions) for the cost of that customer's merchandise.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Include the following. Other duties may be assigned. The first and most important responsibility and accountability is to provide friendly, courteous service to our customers. A cashier will take items out of a shopping cart and scan each item on an electronic scanner. The cashier will then in turn place the item on a conveying belt which will carry the item to the end of the register to be bagged. Cashiers will also assist in various other activities as directed by the general operation of the store as needed, including general cleaning and custodial duties and other specific activities as directed by management.
Required Education and / or Experience:
The store will provide necessary training.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. A cashier must be able to crouch, grasp, lift, pull, push, reach, stand, kneel, and walk in order to lift merchandise out of a grocery cart, scan the item and place on a conveyor belt to be taken to the end of the register and sacked for carry out. A cashier must be able to lift items up to 50 pounds to place through the scanner quickly in a backward and forward motion repeatedly for long periods of time. He/she must be able to stand in one place for long periods while operating his/her register. They must be able to see and read accurately the information that is provided by the electronic scanning system and that which may be provided by the customer. This position requires frequent exertion of medium force and occasional exertion of heavy force. Repetitive motion is required with substantial movements of the wrists, hands and/or fingers. It involves continuous work which cannot be easily or economically interrupted for breaks except at the completion of an assignment.

A cashier is expected to scan merchandise in a repetitive manner within a certain time limit as designated by company policy and comply with an overage/shortage maximum in their accountability of their transaction of money. A cashier is expected to courteously and professionally interact with customers and co-workers and to portray a pleasant temperament and disposition.
