Performs responsible clerical work receiving and posting payments for utilities, taxes, decals, city business licenses, parking tickets, citations and miscellaneous accounts; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision.

Essential Job Functions*:

Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated office machines including typewriter, computer, copy machine, etc.; and the ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects or items customary and reasonable in an office environment; Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve standing or walking during some periods. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Visual Acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities. Worker is subject to no adverse environmental conditions.

Process payments for utility bills, personal property and real estate taxes, business license fees, parking tickets, cruising citations and miscellaneous accounts; Processes payments from various substations; Assist customers with inquiries by listening carefully to citizen's need, inquiry or complaint and responding in a prompt and courteous manner; Balances cash drawer and makes deposit ticket daily; Reports to work on assigned duty schedule; Performs other reasonable duties as assigned.

Processes payments for non-pay disconnections; Processes bad checks returned from bank for "insufficient funds" and taking appropriate action in accordance with City policy and procedures; Researches and prepares information as required on specific accounts.

Typical Qualifications:

Some knowledge of standard office practices, procedures and equipment including computers and software packages; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public; Ability to communicate tactfully and patiently with irate customers; Ability to perform basic mathematical computations.

Education and experience equivalent to graduation from vocational school in business, office technology or related field.
