Receive and disburse money in our retail establishments. Usually involves use of electronic scanners, cash registers, or related equipment. Often involved in processing credit or debit card transactions and validating checks. Provide good customer service and accurate cash handling. Assist in the placement of new arrivals and the removal of merchandise.

Essential Functions Statements:
Counts money in the cash drawers at the beginning of shifts to ensure that amounts are correct and that there is adequate change.
Greet customers entering and leaving the store and while shopping throughout the store. Answers customers’ questions, and provide information on policies and procedures. Listens to customers’ complaints politely and refers them to management for appropriate resolve.
Accurately ring up customers purchases. Receive payment of cash, check, credit cards, debit cards and Goodwill of San Diego Gift Certificates. Issue customer receipts and change due back to customers
Bag and/or wrap customer purchases. Maintain clean and orderly checkout areas.
Follow Daily Assignment Log issued by management or senior cashier.
Discreetly observe customers as they browse through the store to avoid possible shoplifting incidents. In case of suspicion of a shoplifting occurrence, contacts senior cashier, store management or security guard (if available) immediately.
Safeguard company property, including donated goods. Report any incidents of theft or unauthorized possession of company property to management immediately.
Clean shelves, counters, or tables as directed by store management or senior cashier . May assist in other housekeeping duties, including mopping floors, if necessary.
Place new merchandise on display: books, furniture, appliances, clothing, household items, etc. Take inventory of stock as directed by management or senior cashier. Pull clothes off racks for transfer as directed by management.
May be required to work in the donation area by assisting our customers with their donations, providing good customer service and issue properly filled out receipts.
May be required to work in our production/processing area to sort, price and clean donated items; process and hang clothes as necessary.
Promote and demonstrate cooperation and teamwork. Assist and share knowledge with other employees as needed. Use good interpersonal skills such as courtesy, respect, sensitivity, politeness and thoughtfulness. Serve as a role model to ALL individuals participating in our training program.
Follow all safety procedures and abide by Goodwill’s established policies and procedures.
At the end of shift, count own cash drawer with management. Calculate total payments received during a time period, and reconcile this with total sales. Compute and record totals of transactions. Sort, count, and wrap currency and coins.
Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned or directed.
Sales Persons working in SY site may be asked to verify sales after each auction per management request.
Sales Persons working in SY site may be asked to sort, set up floor, load containers and work the parking lot.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Experience: Six months to one year related experience.

Other Requirements: Successful completion of Goodwill of San Diego County’s Math Test.
