Catalog Librarian and Information Literacy Coordinator

Description: The Catalog Librarian and Information Literacy Coordinator will unite responsibilities for assigning and managing metadata with significant involvement in the college's efforts to ensure that its students are skilled in the retrieval, assessment, and application of information.

Responsibilities: Maintain and update the library's bibliographic, item, and authority records, using the OCLC cataloging subsystem and the Innovative Interfaces Millennium ILS; participate in discussing and formulating policy related to information seeking and discovery on the part of the library's clientele; supervise one full-time library assistant and one or two student employees; help to plan, implement, and assess a college-wide, interdisciplinary information literacy program; negotiate schedule of library instruction sessions with colleagues; participate directly in instruction.

Qualifications:
Required: Master's degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association; coursework in cataloging or metadata management; knowledge and understanding of cataloging principles and procedures, including MARC format, AACR2, LCSH, and LC classification; ability to articulate contemporary approaches to information literacy, and contribute to discussions critically examining its role in the liberal arts curriculum; excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to work with colleagues throughout the library, faculty, and students with a cooperative spirit; flexibility in addressing issues associated with being a member of the staff of a small, dynamic academic library; appreciation of the nature and benefits of liberal arts education.

Preferred: Experience in cataloging in an academic library; experience in information literacy or bibliographic instruction in an academic library; familiarity with the cataloging component of the III Millennium ILS.
