The Category Manager assumes full responsibility for growing the sales and profitability of a specific category of products in the Metagenics product line. The Category Manager is the leader in creating, coordinating and executing the strategies and tactics for product development, marketing and sales of the products in the Category. This position is broad in its scope, in that it directs and coordinates the market research, market analysis, planning, scheduling, budgeting, product development, advertising, sales support, PR and communications activities for the Category.

•Develop the strategy for the Category in support of the corporate strategic objectives and marketing strategy.
•Develop the appropriate tactical plans necessary to execute the Category strategy.
•Assume total responsibility for the management of the Category, including managing market research, marketing analysis, planning, positioning, budgeting, product development, collateral development, advertising, PR, product training and the contribution margin for the Category.
•Articulate throughout the organization the mission, strategy and purpose of the Category and to gather the resources and the necessary support to execute the tactical plans for the Category.
•Conduct market research on the Category to determine trends, opportunities, create product positioning and pricing, create forecasts, understand the life cycle of the products in the category and develop marketing programs.
•Work with the sales force to develop competitive product analysis, materials, strategies and marketing programs to help combat the competition.
•Plan, measure and manage the overall advertising, PR, communications and collateral literature production for the Category.
•Manage and control the profitability of each product and the aggregate profitability of the Category, meeting the profit targets set by the Vice President of Marketing.
•Assume the responsibility for the creation of new products in the Category, to stay ahead of the competition and provide the customer with the best in health care nutrition.
•Coordinate with R&D and to offer marketing guidance for product development and product improvements for the products in the Category.
•Execute the marketing plans efficiently; on time and coordinated with new product development, so as to optimize sales of all products and services.

•Sales growth of the Category to meet annual sales objectives
•Profitability growth of the Category to meet annual objectives. Obtain and maintain an understanding of Metagenics and its products, the competitors and the respective customers and markets so as to thoroughly understand product development and pricing and positioning
•Assure that all marketing and advertising materials for the Category are in compliance with FDA and FTC regulations. This requires good communication and cooperation with the legal department.

Qualifications and Guidelines:
•5 - 7 years previous product management marketing experience, preferably involving health care products
•Training or experience in managing profit centers and budgets
•Project management
•Understanding of product development process
•Understanding of positioning and pricing
•Experience with graphic design, copy writing, advertising, PR, communication, planning and literature production
•Highly organized

•Must have good motivational, communication and presentation skills
•Must have strong analytical skills
•Must have good writing skills
•To be a “quick study”, able to understand new concepts and product areas quickly and have the ability to read and understand medically-based information.

•MBA in Marketing or equivalent experience
