Under direct supervision, provides centralized support to AORN, AAMI, CDC, FDA, OSHA and department policy in the areas of Terminal Sterilization, Sterilization and Sterilization Monitoring systems, decontamination and disinfection, preparation of surgical instrument trays, case cart build and distribution and instrument to Patient Tracking Database.
Primary Job Duties:
- Sterilizes specialized, routine and other surgical instrumentation according to manufactures, AORN and AAMI standard recommended guidelines and practice.
- Serves as resource person for sterilization, decontamination, case cart preparation and surgical instrumentation.
- Maintains Central Sterile Processing real-time database for sterilization, decontamination, case cart and assembly of surgical sets.
Skills and Abilities: Must be able to distinguish between sterile and non-sterile; assure proper packaging techniques and appropriate sterilization cycles for items to be sterilized. Must grasp comprehension of sterility maintenance. Complete understanding of the sterilization efficacy process, able to maintain a surgical conscience.
High School graduate or equivalent
Certification of completion of Central Sterlilization Process Techniques
from an accredited association (CBSPD, IAHCSMM, etc.)
Certification achieved within 6 months of hire required.
