Performs specialized recurring responsible work in the cleaning, sterilizing, packaging, storing and issuing of sterile and non-sterile supplies and equipment for the care and treatment of patients. High school diploma or equivalent. On the job training available; previous Central Sterile Technician training and certification preferred. Current BCLS required. Satisfactory performance should be reached within six months of employment. Some independent judgement and initiative required in performing all cleaning, sterilizing and packing duties. Ability to work with realization that errors in work methods may have serious consequences for patients. Ability to assemble all trays and packs in accordance with established standards. Ability to give and receive oral and written instructions. Ability to lift supplies or equipment weighting as much as 30 lbs Working knowledge of current OR techniques, methods, and procedures as a applied to the use and care of surgical instruments. Knowledge of sterile techniques; techniques and practices used in cleaning, sterilization, packaging and issuing of medical supplies and equipment. Working knowledge of operation of steam sterilizers.
