JOB SUMMARY: Is responsible for direct nursing care of assigned patients under supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Clinical Practice: Under the supervision of the RN, actively assists in the nursing process by collecting data, frequently communicating observations, providing direct patient care direct and participates in evaluating care provided and outcomes/goals achieved. Demonstrates responsibility for own continuous skill and knowledge base development. Maintains required certification and mandatory items.
Safety: Provides a safe physical and emotional environment for self, coworkers and patients. Recognizes life threatening situations and responds appropriately.
Information Management: Maintains an accurate, legible and relevant record of patient care provided. Communicates information frequently, accurately and timely. Participates in patient and coworker education.
Work Management: Efficiently and effectively completes assignments; demonstrates appropriate priority setting and when conflicts arise communicates to the responsible RN and/or charge nurse for resolution.
Performance Improvement: Monitors the quality of care based on pre-established outcome oriented indicators; participates in departmental and organizational improvement activities. Makes suggestions for improving processes.
Education and formal Training:
Accredited High School Diploma or GED Required, Current CNA license with Texas DADS.
Work Experience: None required. Unless CNA position is for Resource Pool. Resource Pool requires 2 years of clinical experience.
Knowledge, skills, and Abilities Required: Demonstrated positive interpersonal skills. Verbal and written skills required. Demonstrated effective organizational, teaching and leadership skills. Is knowledgeable of the age specific physiological, psychosocial, developmental and spiritual needs of the patients typically served. Must have command of the English language and possess visual and auditory acuity for accurate data collection.
Physical Requirements: work requires long periods of standing, walking or sitting and occasional assistance with heavy lifting. May be required to work variable shifts on occasion. Position may involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material.
