NEOMED seeks an established, innovative board certified family physician leader for a large and growing Department of Family and Community Medicine. The candidate should have a strong interest in enhancing the mission of NEOMED as a school focused on primary care, public and community health bioethics and the humanities. The individual should be a scholar and educator in research and teaching in an area of family medicine, population science, behavioral science, or health outcomes and/or implementation research. A track record of strong mentorship and facilitation of research is important.

The ideal candidate will be familiar with community-based medical schools and consortium hospital residencies and relationships. The new chair will take a leadership role in supporting teaching in an interdisciplinary model for the future and promoting faculty teaching and curriculum development of a new onsite clinical operation, regional patient-centered medical home and accountable care efforts.

Principal Functional Responsibilities
•Responsible for carrying out the mission of NEOMED providing for the education, research, clinical care and scholarship

•Active mentor to faculty

•Provide innovative, inspiring leadership to NEOMED with the faculty, students, staff, clinical preceptors, affiliate organizations, and the community
•Provide leadership in refining and advancing NEOMED’s unique approach to interprofessional education, incorporating increased opportunities for interdisciplinary practice; and establish the model in primary care fields that will be recognized nationally for innovation and excellence
•Recruit, retain, and mentor faculty with expertise in teaching, research, and clinical practice in primary care and public health and the behavioral sciences and humanities
•Recruit and develop additional clinical partners and preceptors who will provide high-quality educational experiences
•Maintain strong family medicine residency programs
•Build and maintain strong ties to the community and community leaders, primary care health centers—particularly sites for the medically underserved including community health centers and free clinics, hospitals, community organizations, and the public health community
•Engage with students and prospective students, providing a model of medical professionalism.
•Maintain strong ties with students as they graduate and progress in their training and practice in various settings
•Champion diversity initiatives at NEOMED , maintaining a culture that supports and nurtures a diverse student body, staff, faculty, and administration and a curriculum that incorporates cultural competency embracing diversity and cultural competence while setting high standards for scholarship and performance
•Further enhance and expand a competitive research portfolio which obtains funding from federal, (e.g. NIH , AHRQ , and national foundation funding), state and local sources

Key Skills and Personal Characteristics
•Candidates must have an M.D. or D.O. degree, Board Certified by the American Board of Family Medicine is required.
•Significant experience in Family Medicine, Community Medicine, Public Health, Behavioral Sciences, and/or Population Health
•Eligible for appointment as Associate Professor or Professor. Ideally, candidates should have had experience in a university setting with multiple health professional programs and with interdisciplinary care models.
•A record of success as a leader, (e.g. as vice chair; institute, center, or program director), in an academic and clinical environment, including experience in successfully growing a program, department, center or institute.
•A record of contribution to improving primary care, including research, scholarship, and teaching.
•Experience in research and fostering research initiatives and a strong record of research and scholarship, including successful grant funding and work with foundations; ideally experience as well in development and philanthropy and innovative alternative approaches to revenue generation.
• Qualified to serve as a principal investigator on an R01-level grant application. Passion for and successful track record of interprofessional education and interdisciplinary care to transform medical education and health care delivery.
•An understanding of the latest trends in health care delivery and financing, with a clear vision for the future of medical practice, education, and research in the primary health care setting.
•Experience with health care delivery in diverse settings and with working in and promoting a multicultural, diverse environment.
•Experience with curriculum development and assessment and its implementation at an institutional level.
•Familiarity with educational and clinical information systems.
•A respected individual who engages proactively with students, faculty, staff, and the community.
•A confident and highly articulate professional with experience in establishing and maintaining effective collaborations with physician groups, clinics, hospitals, and other health professions.
•A record of national participation and collaboration in medical college innovation/initiatives
•A leader who can not only craft an inspiring vision but also translate it into a successful program, including effectively delegating responsibilities and evaluating performance and inspiring others who are members of the team.
•Innovative and able to develop a culture of innovation within a program.
•A strong communicator with the ability to engage faculty and staff and external stakeholders, including community-based faculty, the press, public, and potential donors. Politically adroit in interactions with internal and external stakeholders, with a track record of multi-stakeholder collaborations.
•Able to bring people together and bridge differences to pursue a common goal, working and effectively leading across disciplines and organizations based on the ability to engender a sense of trust and shared commitment to a compelling vision.
•Comfortable leading change and managing in a fluid growth-oriented environment.

Preferred Qualifications
M.P.H., Dr.P.H. or Ph.D. degree considered a plus.
