PRN position working variable shifts
Provides non-denominational spiritual care to patients, families and staff members of St. Joseph Hospice. The Chaplain witnesses to the Christian philosophy of the Health Care System through his/her ministry to assist in the creation of an atmosphere of growth and support for all.
Follows all established organization and department policies, procedures, objectives and quality assessment. Responsible for assisting in maintaining a safe working environment throughout the organization by adhering to all safety management policies and procedures which reflect the mission and philosophy of the Ascension Health System. Attends all mandatory in-service programs and maintains professional and education requirements.
Masters in Theology or Divinity, or Religious Studies, or Pastoral Ministry, or Spirituality.
Completion of four (4) units of Clinical Pastoral Education
Masters of Divinity or Masters Degree in Pastoral Care and Counseling
Registration, Certification and/or Licensure Required
BCC/Board Certified Chaplain or certified within 2 years of hire
Indiana Driver¿s License
Negative Indiana Criminal History Check
Two (2) years experience in hospice, hospital or other health related setting
Exposure to life/death or other loss issues in educational process or by life experience
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required
Must possess excellent communication and counseling skills in order to establish trust in crisis situations, elicit information and develop a helping plan for hospice patients/families in order to provide non-threatening support
Must be able to work independently within broad guidelines to guide judgment and action
Must be able to apply Hospice knowledge and philosophy of care to various situations
Must be comfortable and able to talk with families regarding deeply personal, private spiritual issues in a non-judgmental manner
Ability to use basic office equipment including telephone, computer, fax machine and copier
Exposed to infection from disease-bearing specimens
May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases
Regularly exposed to the risk of bloodborne diseases
Exposed to hazardous body fluids and wastes
Subject to electrical energy hazards
Exposed to hazards from electrical/mechanical/power equipment
May be exposed to biohazardous radioactive substances
Exposed to a variety of electro-mechanical hazards
Exposed to odorous chemicals and specimens
Exposed to housekeeping/cleaning agents/chemicals
May be exposed to toxic chemicals
Contact with patients under wide variety of circumstances
May be exposed to patient/unit elements (socio-economic)
Handles emergency or crisis situations
May perform emergency care
Occasionally subjected to irregular hours
May make home visits
Requires judgment/action which could result in death of patient (RN¿s)
Noise - sufficient noise to cause distraction
May be exposed to extremes of heat and cold in all weather conditions
Light physical effort - up to 10 lbs., though mostly sedentary
Required to drive on daily basis with frequent exit/entering of automobile
Must be mobile to gain access to patient home
