POSITION DESCRIPTION :
1. JOB PURPOSE
Assist in wastewater treatment experiments with chemical analyses and bioreactor research at USDA lab
2. JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs environmental sample analyses according to Standard Methods for Examination of Water and Wastewater E/30%
Performs experiments with continuous flow bio-reactors with anammox bacteria and animal wastewater E/30%
Monitors waste treatment experiments including maintaining monitoring instrumentation and pH controllers E/20%
Undertakes operation, maintenance and calibration of moderately complex Wet Chemistry Autoanalyzer E/10%
Maintain official notebook and summarizes experimental results to provide real-time feed back to scientist E/10%
A bachelor's degree in chemistry; or a bachelor's degree in the natural sciences with academic credits in chemistry, plus work experience in a setting related to the area of employment
PREFERRED IN ADDITION TO THE MINIMUM:
Experience in the operation and maintenance of segmented multichemistry Technicon AutoAnalyzer and AACE software for simultaneous determination of ammonia, phosphorus, nitrite and nitrate in wastewater. Experience in the operation of laboratory bio-reactors for wastewater nitrogen treatment using immobilized anammox bacteria
PAY & WORK SCHEDULE :
Standard Hrs: 40; Band: 05; Pay: $15.23/hour
BENEFITS INFORMATION :
Employees who are in time limited positions will earn one and one-quarter days of Annual and Sick Leave per month for a total of thirty (30) days per year. Eligible part-timers will earn days on a pro rata basis.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES :
Professional knowledge of the principles, theories and practices of chemistry, physics, and mathematics including calculus. Knowledge of established chemical methods and procedures sufficient to perform routine and limited analyses and tests by applying established methods and procedures.
