Serves as the chief administrative and operational executive for all divisions of the department. Develops and implements departmental policies and programs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervises and evaluates the work of all supervisors and administrative staff. Recruits, interviews and makes recommendations on personnel actions for deputy constables and other staff. · Formulates, interprets, implements and monitors departmental rules, regulations, policies and procedures. · Supervises the development and implementation of annual operating plans and budgets; prepares and submits annual departmental budget for all divisions. · Recommends appropriate action on public complaints, employee grievances and internal investigations. · Manages the personnel, equipment and facilities of the office. · Acts as the spokesperson for the department; makes presentations before the Commissioners Court. · Develops and instructs curriculum for the Travis County Constables, Texas Justice Court Training Center and CAPCO Regional Training Academy. · Serves as Acting Constable in the absence of the Constable.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Two (2) years college course work in criminal justice AND four (4) years experience in law enforcement including at least one (1) year's supervisory experience. May be required to complete a minimum of 40 hours of classroom training every two (2) years. Licenses, Registrations, Certifications, or Special Requirements:
Must possess intermediate certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education as a licensed peace officer. (TCLEOSE) Possession of a valid Texas Driver’s License.
Civil process experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES : Knowledge of : · Criminal and civil laws. · Departmental law enforcement procedures. · Laws governing the custody of persons. · Bookkeeping, accounting practices and fiscal management. Skill in : · Familiarity with city/county roads and maps. · Clean driving record. · Use of firearms. · Use of Computers. Ability to : · Handle stressful situations. · Deal with irrational persons. · Communicate effectively. · Train, supervise, and motivate employees.
