We are currently seeking a Chief Development Officer who will work within the department†s Development unit.Description of the Position: The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics consists of more than 200 staff members and coaches and sponsors 29 varsity sports programs. These 29 programs include more than 850 student-athletes who participate in the various sports programs annually within the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA).The University of California, Berkeley is seeking candidates for the position of Senior Associate Athletic Director for Development.

This position serves as the chief development officer for the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics (IA) and works closely with the Director of Athletics and the Vice Chancellor for University Relations to plan and implement overall fundraising strategies and goals for the department. The Senior Associate Athletics Director is a member of the department's senior Leadership Team and reports directly to the Director of Athletics. In addition, this position serves as an active participant on the department's External Affairs Team.The University is in the midst of a comprehensive campaign- the Campaign for Berkeley- that was launched in 2008. The Senior Associate Athletic Director will work closely with colleagues in University Relations to develop and execute a comprehensive strategy for achieving IA's priorities within the University campaign.For more information on our department, please visit for creation and successful implementation of a visionary strategic plan for development within Intercollegiate Athletics.Establishes, monitors, and manages goals for each area of the strategic plan and assumes responsibility for meeting these goals.

Manages development office, establishes organizational structure, and reporting lines. Assumes direct management responsibility for several key staff members. Meets regularly with direct reports to evaluate activities and strategies and adjusts as needed to meet established goals as part of unit's strategic plan. Leads, manages and motivates staff to achieve individual, program, and overall fundraising goals.

Develops performance standards for staff and fosters a positive and collaborative working environment through training, feedback and personal example. Develops and monitors existing capital campaign for the Student-Athlete High Performance Center and the California Memorial Stadium renovation projects. Oversees a comprehensive priority-points program to facilitate improved donor stewardship, create benefits, customer service. Manages a portfolio of principal and major gift prospects, coordinating solicitation strategies with other assigned principal and major gift staff members.

Participates in all development activities including individual meetings with donors, prospects, and volunteer fundraising groups. Acts as the primary development liaison to the Head Coaches. Consults regularly with coaches to leverage their networks to enhance solicitation and stewardship activities. Oversees the preparation and messaging of written materials for fundraising purposes including descriptions of gift opportunities, brochures, proposals, Athletic Director's speeches, gift acknowledgments, solicitations and reports to donors and volunteers.

Assure that best practices are in place and that relevant and innovative fundraising messages are developed for diverse demographic and geographic supporters. Monitors, analyzes, and reports on overall fundraising results versus goals to internal and external constituencies. Prepares and delivers reports to volunteer groups as needed. Provides staff support for key volunteer groups, including the Director's Advisory Board.

Develops and monitors operating budget for the department's development programs. Forecasts expenses, evaluates the cost-effectiveness of programs, and reallocates funds as appropriate.
