The Director, Finance and Accounting will provide both strategic and tactical (30%/70% of the time, respectively) financial services for ESF. He/she will manage ESF’s income and expenses while processing payroll for 50 full-time, year-round staff members and 1,500 seasonal summer employees. In addition to providing strategic insight and analysis to drive ESF’s future financial success, this individual will be hands-on regarding our internal processes with less of an emphasis spent on managing external relationships.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
  • Manage, oversee and process all financial information and reporting for ESF Summer Camps and ESF Dream Camp organizations
  • Provide and manage all accounting operational functions for the organization, including accounts receivable and payable
  • Calculate bi-weekly payroll for 50 full-time year-round staff and 1500 summer seasonal employees. Manage and deliver payroll services through ADP
  • Define effective and efficient cost management and financial analysis processes and tools
  • Prepare and maintain regular financial forecasting, analysis and planning reports; ensure the continuing effectiveness of internal control over financial reporting
  • Ensure the maintenance of appropriate internal controls and financial procedures
  • Develop recommended budget planning and budget control processes; manage budget planning and control processes with company departments (Enrollment, Marketing, Operations and Talent Acquisition & Development
  • Partner with ESF owners to evaluate new and viable business opportunities for new/expanded geographies and service offerings as well as potential acquisitions
  • Collaborate with Talent Acquisition & Development team to create and manage cost effective staffing and compensation management models for seasonal staffing
  • Ensure legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions
  • Provide input for product and service pricing
  • Execute payment of all taxes
  • Provide bank reconciliations
  • Manage credit card transactions
  • Oversee a team of 1 Coordinator and 6 seasonal payroll interns
  • Responsible for all financial aspects of vendor relationships, including performing new purchase research and negotiations
  • Oversee the purchase order system and process
  • Manage insurance products and relationships for the business
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Experience Requirements:
  • Minimum seven (7) years of relevant experience, with at least four (4) years working in a management position focusing on accounting and payroll
  • Minimum five (5) years of financial analysis experience
  • Minimum five (5) years of payroll experience dealing in paying a high volume of seasonal (preferable) or hourly paid employees
  • HRIS interface experience required
  • Previous experience creating and managing a financial budget
  • Prior experience working in cash operating systems
  • Experience working in an entrepreneurial environment is strongly preferred. Background in Not-for-Profit; Service; Education; Childcare; Seasonal Industry business is also highly desirable
  • Prior experience working in a growing organization s with seasonal hiring preferred

Education Requirements:
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
  • CPA or MBA with an emphasis in accounting is strongly preferred

Other Skill Requirements:
  • Outstanding Microsoft Office (Excel and Word) and Outlook skills are required
  • ADP systems knowledge and experience is highly preferred
  • Quickbooks knowledge and experience is strongly preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including business writing
  • Proficient at designing and completing research studies to forecast revenues and costs
  • Must be willing and able to work very tactically while thinking strategically
  • Ability to consistently produce accurate results within restricted time constraints
  • Proficient at designing and completing research studies to forecast revenues and costs
  • Must be meticulous with a strong attention to detail
  • Must possess critical thinking skills
  • Must be extremely organized with strong project management skills
