Director, Chief Information Architect

The Director, Chief Information Architect develops and maintains the information architecture for the organization to enable knowledge worker productivity and improve fact based decision making. This is accomplished by delivering accurate, timely, and consistent information, structured and unstructured, from internal and external sources. The incumbent will work closely with the senior leadership of the company, the IT Directors, and internal and external business partners.

Essential Job Duties

Establish and enable Data Governance programs and policies for the enterprise. This includes the establishment of all metadata documentation and the creation of the Panera Master Data Dictionary program.

Engage with project managers and project sponsors to develop project scope and vision for all EDW/BI-related projects.

Design EDW/BI solutions to enable fact based decision making. Clearly identify EDW/BI project stakeholders and establish user classes, as well as their characteristics.

Lead all data and information modeling efforts for both relational and dimensional repositories.

Maintain current knowledge of rapidly changing EDW/BI technology market.

Identify and establish scope and parameters of requirements analysis on a project-by-project basis to define project impact, outcome criteria, and metrics.

Establishes vision and scope for EDW and MDM (CDM in Panera language) tools and processes, and evangelizes necessity and value for same.

"Internal Consultant" to the Panera software development teams for all data-driven application development efforts. Oversee's the modeling and implementation of new data repositories in support of enterprise applications.

Establishment and governance of all data access tools within the enterprise, inclusive of API layers associated with BI/EDW applications.

Conduct research on EDW/BI software and hardware products to meet agreed upon requirements and to support affiliated architecture and purchasing efforts.

Oversee the QA of EDW/BI solutions to ensure features and functions have been enabled and optimized.

Translate conceptual user requirements into functional requirements in a clear manner that is comprehensible to developers/project team.

Create data models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to developers and/or the project team, using new and existing EDW/BI patterns.

Develop feasible options for solutions and communicate these back to the business stakeholders.

Provide guidance and/or instruction to junior staff members and/or contractors. This role requires people and administrative management skills for a small, skilled team of data modelers, analysts and project/program managers.


Position Requirements

College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science, or information systems strongly preferred.

15+ Years of technical, business and people leadership related to Data Management and Information delivery.

Role-specific experience required in all the following disciplines:

Program/Project Management, Architecture, Data Warehousing, Data Movement and Integration (ETL, EAI), Data Migrations, Data Architecture, Structured and Unstructured Data Management ("Big Data" technologies), Data Quality, Metadata, MDM and BI/Analytics preferred.

Demonstrated skills of project and program management, quality assurance, and team development.

Ability to lead the effort to research solutions, craft the solution for the future state, and define enterprise data management strategies, as well as, define information delivery through BI and Analytics to align with business strategy.

A strong technical management background, with extensive experience working with senior-level cross-functional (non-technical) business partners to facilitate top-line and bottom line results.

Extensive expertise required with leading hardware and software platforms such as Oracle, Microsoft, Informatica as well as new emerging technologies, such as Mongo and Hadoop.

Individual should have a track record of delivering IT solutions in a changing environment with a distributed workforce; prefer experience with both large and small companies.

Ability to apply statistical and other research methods to systems issues and products as required.

Ability to find "return on investment" from information mined from disparate data should be second-nature.

Understanding of application development and software development lifecycle concepts for EDW/BI solutions requiring custom development.
