Chief Medical Officer

Position Summary

The primary responsibility of the BB&T Precept Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is to lead and guide the Health Management Services division. This includes accountability to employers, employees, family members, BB&T Precept coworkers, nd health plan service partners, as well as directing efforts to improve health, control claims costs, support employee engagement, and improve productivity, including both wellness and clinical care management services for BB&T clients. The CMO will provide direct consulting services to large self-funded clients and provide leadership in health management to the HMS staff, BB&T Precept employee benefits producers, and to service partners. The CMO will also represent BB&T Precept health management services to outside entities through marketing, presentations, web casts, publications, and other venues.

Essential Functions
  • Provide leadership and vision in developing the BB&T Precept Health Management Services Division (HMS)
  • Develop marketing strategies to support creation of BB&T Precept market awareness and brand perception in the national, large, and middle market space
    • Speaking engagements on national stage
    • Thought leadership articles and trade publications
  • Support sales process to penetrate these markets with HMS services
  • Achieve mutually agreed upon sales and revenue targets.
  • Manage HMS Division for minimum 20% margin within two years
  • Consulting for company clients:
    • Wellness programs
    • Care management programs, including case management, condition management, health advocacy, and prenatal
    • Consumer Driven Plans
    • Vendor evaluations
    • Self-funding issues (large claims, lasers, etc.)
    • Audits of medical management services
  • Resolve client healthcare/claims issues
    • Wellness programs
    • Audit template
    • Consumer driven health plan services and initiatives
    • Clinical programs to improve outcomes
  • Program/product development
  • Product development, including CarePlus and outreach services
  • Other duties as requested
  • Excellent interpersonal, motivational, and communication skills
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and persuasively
  • Must be a self-starter, with sound decision-making skills
  • Must be comfortable in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
  • Excellent personal computer skills, including spreadsheet, presentation, and word processing software
Experience and Education
  • Medical degree with residency
  • Minimum of ten (10) years progressive experience in management and leadership roles
  • Demonstrated leadership and ability to influence and motivate others
  • Experience in health care management at a provider group or health plan level
  • Experience as a medical director in health benefits and/or health insurance
  • Executive level communication, presentation, leadership, analytical, and problem solving skills
