Position Summary

Reporting to the Chief Experience Officer, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) will provide company-wide leadership, strategy, operations and management as a national practice. The COO will work with the CEO to continually refine and implement the strategic growth plan to expand and position the company as a leader in providing program design and management services on a national scale. The COO will have the responsibility to work with the CEO, leadership team, and all employees to execute and accomplish the goals/metrics of the strategic plan. Responsibilities include oversight leadership in marketing/business development, operations, professional services, and financial performance of the company including all divisions and offices.

Essential Functions

Leads the operations of the company to achieve the targeted key performance indicators

Responsible to establish and maintain the “operating results” dashboard/processes and work with leadership team to make operating adjustments to meet targets

Develops and monitors the overall organizational structure of the company

Establishes policies and guidelines for operational excellence and regulatory compliance including local, state and federal markets

Provides guidance and oversight in preparation of project understandings, schedules, budgets, fee proposals and negotiations

Oversees the process for ensuring the proper work plans are in place, scheduling work, staffing and compliance in the execution of projects including resolution between departments

Ensures quality processes are in place for all divisions specific to their project requirements

Works with the leadership team for approval of additional staffing based on the strategic and resources planning requirements

Ensures there is development and training strategy for all operations personnel

Responsible for the development and implementation of a company-wide technology strategy and infrastructure

Develops and maintains strategic working relationship with key consultants, vendors and suppliers including execution of major contracts, e.g. leases and long term contracts

Supports the development and implementation of a company-wide internal communication strategy

Ensures that the key financial performance indicators are in place to achieve the company’s financial performance aligned with the strategic plan

Works with leadership team and finance team to understand key performance indicators for each business unit as well as their collective impact on the company

Supports the CEO in developing key financial relationships and appropriate compliance requirements


The incumbent will be an individual who is skilled in balancing internal management with external leadership, business development, and visibility to support the growth goals of the company. While managing the organization's overall activities, he/she will foster an environment of accountability, excellence, collaboration, and innovation among the staff and will demonstrate fiscal responsibility

Experience and Education

Minimum of a BA, ideally with and MBA

Strong operational experience: worked in a senior managemnet role for 10+ years in socially responsible organization with progressive experience leading to at least three years experience in operational/administrative management

Demonstrated experience in financial planning and analysis

Skills should include organizational development, personnel management, budget and resource development, and strategic planning; demonstrated success developing and monitoring systems to manage both operational and programmatic work that involve high levels of collaboration

Excellent people skills, with an ability to partner with a dynamic leadership team

Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and commitment to the mission of the company

Flexible and able to multi-task; can work within an ambiguous, fast-moving environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions; demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems
