Supervises Dental Program for the Bristol Bay Service Area, which includes but is not limited to dental support for the hospital, the dental clinic, and community/village dental support. Performs professional work in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and deformities of the teeth, jaws, organs of the mouth and other structures and connective tissues associated with the oral cavity and the masticatory system.

Qualifications:
D.D.S. or D.M.D. Degree. Current license to practice in the State of Alaska (if not PHS Commissioned Officer). GPR certificate and 6 additional years of professional practice experience, or 10 years professional experience is desired.

Essential Functions:
  • Provides dental health services to the Bristol Bay Area population in accordance with Bristol Bay Area Health Corporation policies.
  • Advises the Director of Community Health Services, Chief Operations Officer and Chief of Medical Staff on all matters pertaining to oral health.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates quality and quantity of the region’s dental program and resources through monitoring the Indian Health Service (IHS) contract objectives, dental field trip reports, IHS Dental Data Program printouts and miscellaneous reports from the Bristol Bay Area Health Corporation.
  • Oversees the administration of an ongoing oral disease prevention program.
  • Monitors fluoride concentration of community water supplies in the region with technical assistance from the area sanitation.
  • Provides current and accepted dental treatment procedures to all patients including pediatric dental patients.
  • Plans, participates in and evaluates career development activities of the dental staff.
  • Provides educational and administrative services as requested to other health care professionals, schools, civic groups, etc.
  • Acknowledges all communications and submits required reports and evaluations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director of Community Health Services.
