This managerial position reports directly to the Deputy Warden. The incumbent is responsible for the direction and supervision of all security related functions and associated security staff 24hrs day/7 days per week.
Provides oversight and supervision regarding the day-to-day functioning of all security related matters that occur on a 24 hour basis. Supervises and directs the security functions and activities of Correctional Officers and Correctional Supervisors. Ensures that security personnel receive appropriate training consistent with contractual obligations, facility and corporate requirements and ACA Standards.
Ensures the proper deployment of staff on each shift consistent with the authorized staffing plan. Review all daily reports submitted by subordinate correctional staff to ensure accuracy, completeness and policy/procedure compliance. Ensure that all applicable security policies and procedures are adhered to by subordinate correctional staff.
Review daily shift activity reports submitted from supervisory staff. Perform and document weekly security inspection of entire facility. Assist in the performance of security related quality assurance audits. Visually inspect facility for security, safety and sanitation compliance by staff and inmates. Interpret security rules and regulations and ensure compliance by security staff.
Conduct work performance reviews of subordinate supervisory staff. Complete and submit employee performance appraisals on a timely basis. Interpret and enforce security rules/regulations and direct subordinates in methods of enforcement of regulations to achieve compliance with applicable standards. Direct security staff in methods of dealing with unruly inmates and inmate control consistent with policy and procedure.
Investigate and provide comprehensive reports on the causes of inmate disturbances (i.e., fights, assaults, etc.) and staff improprieties. Review and evaluate all instances involving the Use of Force to determine compliance with facility policy and procedure. Review the quality and quantity of work by subordinates to evaluate efficiency and effectiveness of work. Responsible for determining the rotation assignments of Correctional Officers and Correctional Supervisors.
May recommend formal disciplinary action against staff found in violation of facility regulations Serves as committee member on training, budget and policy review boards. May assist management in the establishment of long-range plans and corresponding schedules to achieve facility goals and objectives. Assists in the annual review process of all security related policies, procedures, emergency plans and post orders. Initiates the development of memorandums and correspondence relating to security operations.
Ensure that the integrity of the physical plant security is maintained. Submit recommendations and/or suggestions on security related improvements. Participates as the AOD (Administrative Officer of the Day). Available to respond on a 24-hour, 7-day basis to significant and/or unusual occurrences, as directed.
High School or GED education with a B.S./B.A. in Criminal Justice or related field highly desirable
At least five (5) years of correctional/law enforcement experience with at least two (2) years of demonstrated supervisory/administrative experience.
Knowledge of program objectives, policies, correctional laws, applicable court orders, procedures and requirements for managing a secure correctional facility highly desirable, as demonstrated by having a combination of relevant work and educational experience.
Must be mature, flexible, intellectually alert, able to command the respect and confidence from inmates and staff, and philosophically committed to the objectives of the facilitys mission
