Reporting to the Executive Vice President for Finance, the Chief of Staff is responsible for a wide range of matters / initiatives for the EVP and the Finance division, an operation with 200+ FTE's. The Chief of Staff represents the EVP in a variety of situations across the University. As a member of the Finance senior leadership team, the Chief of Staff helps to develop and sustain an effective support structure for this team and ensures division-wide adherence to the goals and priorities set by the EVP. Working closely with the EVP, and partnering with the senior functional managers in the division (Treasurer, Controller, VP for Procurement, VP for Budget & Financial Planning, AVP for Internal Audit, AVP for Finance Service Management, Executive Director for Finance HR, Training & Change Management, and the executive team of Columbia Investment Management Company), the Chief of Staff streamlines workflow and communications, is involved in policy formulation, monitors and facilitates financial planning across the division, and offers strategic planning and support on a variety of issues. Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited, to: ensures a unified understanding of the goals and priorities of the Finance senior leadership team and across the division, and assists in the monitoring of progress against goals; strategizes with the EVP and the senior leadership team regarding policy development, planning, and problem resolution; works closely with individual business units to manage/prepare reports, briefings, presentations and responses to various issues, as appropriate; manages and monitors the operating budget for the division and assists EVP in resource allocation decisions and all related budget analysis and reporting; manages all responses and tracking of progress to resolution for any issues that arise from either internal or external audits where a function within Finance is identified as the business owner; assists with the creation and review of materials for the Trustees' Committees on Finance and Audit; manages special projects on behalf of the EVP that frequently involve senior officers and/or faculty of the University; represents the EVP in select internal and external interactions not directly handled by the EVP; performs other related duties and project management roles as assigned. ** A strong internal candidate has been identified, however, we are still receiving and reviewing applications from qualified candidates.**

Minimum Qualifications for Grade Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

Bachelor's degree plus at least seven years progressive and related responsibility required.

Experience must include supporting senior-level administration in a large, highly complex, decentralized organization. In addition, excellent leadership, analytical, interpersonal and organizational skills are required, along with an engaging, dynamic, collaborative and confident communication style. Must have a demonstrated ability to think and work independently, with multiple tasks and projects, and to identify priorities. In addition, must be able to react to time-sensitive matters as well as manage complex, longer-term initiatives, and have the ability to respond quickly to changing business needs and priorities; excellent follow-through required. Demonstrated project management skills required, along with an excellent understanding of administrative and operational services. Computer proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required. The successful candidate must exhibit a high degree of flexibility, diplomacy, have sound judgment, with an open and collaborative style of leadership that encourages teamwork and cooperation, and a strong role model. In addition, must have a proven ability to develop and foster relationships with a diverse group of University administrators and external parties, with the capability to collaborate, negotiate and influence at a senior level. Must have a passion for excellent customer service and commitment to exceptional quality, and be able to turn strategy into action. Must be a self-starter and action oriented (proactive rather than reactive), with the initiative to create and implement new ideas in order to produce client-focused solutions.
