POSITION: Child Development Specialist

REPORTS TO: Prevention Initiative Program Coordinator

OVERVIEW: Family Focus is a family support/family advocacy organization that provides comprehensive resources and support programs for families. We strive to offer quality services to children, youth, adults, grandparents, pregnant and parenting teens, foster families and new immigrants. Our agency is located in diverse community-based centers in Chicago and the surrounding areas. Its mission is to promote the well-being of children from birth by supporting and strengthening their families in and with their communities. This position is located on the south side in the Englewood neighborhood. Provide comprehensive case management services to children birth through three and their families.


• Assist in recruiting duties.
• Conducts case management activities including intake, needs assessments developmental screenings, family support plans, home based services and advocacy.
• Provide parent/child interaction activities for families on caseload on home visits and at the center.
• Maintain tracking system on all children and families on caseload, to ensure follow through of case management activities.
• Develop Transition plans for three-year-olds leaving program.
• Monitor service provision for all families assigned to caseload.
• Participate in program sub-committee to coordinate home-based and center /school-based activities.
• Facilitate parent groups at center and schools including special projects.
• Present case material during team meetings and staffing.
• Be knowledgeable about families on team roster to assure that program activities and services reflect family’s needs and interest.
• Prepare and submit appropriate documentation and reports.
• Provide support, education and information on relevant topics including child development, parenting and family life through home-based services.
• Attend all required staff meetings, trainings, required by Family Focus and other funders.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
• Maintain records of center-based child development activities.
• Ensure that developmentally appropriate toys are available for each group
• Ensure that universal precautions are adhered to in the childcare room
• Document attendance
• Interpret the Family Focus Prevention Initiative Program to the community and enlist community support.
• Be knowledgeable about community resources and be able to function as a liaison
between parents and other services provider.

Mandatory Job Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS:

• Be knowledgeable about community resources and be able to function as a liaison
between parents and other services provider
• Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent experience
• Extensive knowledge of community resources and ability to link participants to those resources
• Considerable experience working with children and families in underserved or overburdened communities
• Specific training in the use of the Ages and Stages Questionnaire and prior home visiting skills a plus
