The New York County District Attorney's Office is currently recruiting for a Child Victim Specialist in its Witness Aid Services Unit (WASU). WASU provides a variety of court-related services, social services, and counseling services designed to meet the needs of crime victims, witnesses, and their families. The unit also provides information related to the prosecution of the case, assists victims in understanding the criminal justice system, and provides information regarding crime victims' rights.
The successful candidate will possess an MSW. Experience working with children preferred. Ability to demonstrate a high level of confidentiality and sensitivity to child victim issues a must. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; must be detail-oriented and self-motivated. Ability to handle high caseload and set priorities; strong organizational and computer skills required. Ability to work overtime and flexible hours including holidays, evenings and weekends. Oral and written Spanish bilingual skills a plus.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Conduct crisis interviews with child victims, witnesses, and their families.
Provide safety planning including immediate and long-term relocation.
Conduct mental health assessment, needs assessments and create appropriate service plan.
Explain criminal justice system and provide case information in age appropriate language.
Provide support and accompaniment during grand jury, trial and sentencing proceedings.
Provide comprehensive advocacy and referrals to outside agencies on behalf of clients.
Provide advocacy to police precincts, schools and employers.
Participate in field visits to hospitals, victims' homes, schools, etc.
Conduct on-going follow up contact to ensure the clients are receiving support and services.
Participate in multidisciplinary team approach to cases.
Ensure that clients are knowledgeable about their rights.
Liaise with child victims, families and assigned Assistant District Attorneys.
Communicate regularly with assigned Assistant District Attorneys with updates on the needs of the client and the services provided through WASU.
