Child Welfare Specialist Assistant

Job Summary:
To provide support services to Child Welfare Specialist personnel and other professional staff in providing task-centered, concrete assistance to individual clients and families that includes transportation, accompaniment and assisting with case record organization and copying. To assist with the Intact Family Parenting Classes coordination and child care provision. May be required to provide direct services on occasion, based on program needs, including in-home counseling and case management services to DCFS-involved intact families. Assesses family functioning and service needs, collaborates with family in completing client service plans, makes inter- and intra-agency referrals for appropriate services. Access to an automobile is essential in order for the worker to make home visits, attend agency meetings, staffing, court appearances, transportation of clients, etc.

Sensitivity to cultural diversity is required. Will be subject to drug and alcohol screening, as well as aptitude and skills’ testing. To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience:
Bachelor degree in Social Work, or related human services field required . At least one year of child welfare experience is strongly preferred. Must successfully complete the IDCFS Foundation training and achieve licensure, as a licensed child welfare specialist.

Language Skills:
Bilingual/Bicultural in Spanish and English, with good verbal and written communication skills in both languages.

Computer Literacy & Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Word Processing and knowledge of SACWIS- as offered in IDCFS Foundation Training.

Mathematical Skills:
Basic math skills are required.

Other:
Must have access to a car, have a valid driver’s license and insurance.

People Management:
Child Welfare Specialist Assistant does not directly supervise others, but may, on occasion, be expected to assist in the training of new personnel.
