Under general supervision, is responsible for supervising the staff and daily operations of the library's Circulation Services division; performs related duties as required.
Essential Job Functions:
Performs and supervises daily Circulation Services division activities including materials check in/checkout, shelving and shelf maintenance, holds processing, customer registration, notifications and ancillary activities. Monitors and maintains receipt of fines and other monetary collections, balances deposits and prepares the necessary reports. Supervises and assists with Interlibrary Loan processing. Plans and oversees active collection marketing efforts and replenishing of materials displays. Identifies display and other promotional needs and assists in preparing appropriate materials.
Schedules and directs activities of Circulation staff. Trains, supervises, coaches and conducts performance evaluations for Circulation division direct reports. Provides leadership, instruction and guidance to staff in the delivery of outstanding customer service. Conducts regular meetings with staff. Recommends and implements procedures for efficient and effective operations. Documents and maintains Circulation procedures manual. Serves as first resort in the resolution of circulation problems and customer disputes.
With Public Services staff, provides information assistance to library customers and assists PC Lab users. Selects materials and maintains serials/periodicals collection and select others. With Volunteer Coordinator, trains citizen volunteers and coordinates assignments. Oversees Federal Tax Form program. Compiles statistics, prepares reports and makes presentations as needed.
With Director of Library Services, plans for changing roles and reassignment of staff as new systems and processes are implemented. Conducts continuous review of customer satisfaction and recommends strategies for improvement. May perform other duties as required.
Minimum two (2) years' public library experience, including management and supervision of personnel. Experience in providing front-line customer service and managing library circulation operations is highly desirable. Bachelor's degree required, preferably in public service disciplines such as hospitality management, marketing, business administration or information management.
Thorough knowledge of library operations, including automated library processes, electronic and digital resources, circulation procedures and library collection management. Skill in the operation of library computer hardware and software. Awareness of library marketing and promotional strategies. Understanding of current library best practices and trends, and ability to make recommendations for future needs. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with patrons and co-workers. Ability to plan, develop, organize and promote library collections and services as part of an integrated team.
Valid Texas driver's license. Must have and maintain a good driving record in accordance with the driving standards as established by the City of Rowlett. Must report all traffic citations to his/her departmental Director or his/her designee pursuant to city policy.
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. Responsible for regular attendance and reporting to work on time.
